The new Overwatch hero is Orisa...wait what?
I can't be the only one who thought that the new hero would be Doomfist, ok the developers already mentioned that the new hero wouldn't be who you would expect but I kind of was hoping that they try to trick us with that. But the new hero isn't Doomfist, the new hero is Orisa! Orisa or should I say OR15A is a robot (or is it omnic?) and a tank. So that's not a bad thing right? Right?!!!
Who or what is Orisa?
In a small background story video you learn about a young girl, named Efi, that is a genius robot builder and she decided to build a robot that would protect people. It's based upon already existing robots, the OR15, but when Doomfist attacked the airport he destroyed those robots and so Efi decided to build a new an improved OR15 which became the OR15A or as she likes to call the robot Orisa. What's interesting about Orisa is that this robot is completely new, there's no background prior to the recent events and that makes Orisa a brand new hero in the Overwatch universe and it is quite capable as well. But how good is Orisa? Well pretty good from what I've seen.
What can Orisa do?
Orisa is a tank, so that means increased health and better survivability, but the robot also has some interesting abilities. For example she can use the ability fortify that will make her immune to the abilities or even ultimates of certain heroes. For example Mei can't freeze Orisa, Reinhardt can't stun or pin Orisa with his charge and Phara can't push Orisa off the map with her knockback attack. This makes her very good in certain situations. Orisa can also put down a protective barrier, unlike Reinhardt's barrier this one can be put down and someone can hide behind it or Orisa can use it to protect its ultimate ability, a cannister that empowers everyone within line of sight, so it's pretty useful but it can be destroyed like any other barrier. Orisa has a type of sentry gun on one arm and is pretty much a walking Bastion in sentry mode with that, except Bastion can do more damage in sentry mode. The alternate fire attack is called halt and will fire a small graviton sphere, like a small Zarya ultimate, to pull enemies to it and if you use the alternate fire button again you explode the graviton sphere. This ability is good for pulling someone from around a corner of just get enemies closer together so someone else with an ultimate can get more kills. Orisa's ultimate is called super charger and does exactly what the name says, it super charges everyone on your team as long as they stay within the line of sight of the super charger. This super charger can be destroyed if not protected and Sombra can also hack it, so be careful!
Is Orisa a fun and useful character?
I think that Orisa is a pretty good tank, maybe not the one we really wanted but definitely a useful tank! Not only does Orisa have a way to deal with annoying abilities, just think of Roadhog's hook, and not be affected by those. This makes Orisa a powerful and deadly opponent if not dealt with fast. It might take a moment to get used to all the abilities and things that Orisa can do but once you get a feel for that then you can be a deadly and annoying tank. I don't think that Orisa will replace Reinhardt, the big protective shield of Reinhardt is quite useful, but having someone on your team that can damage boost everyone, give a barrier and isn't easy to get rid off might be quite useful as well. I guess we'll just have to see how Orisa will work out in ranked mode.
