Ghost Recon Wildlands, fun or frustration?
I got Ghost Recon Wildlands three days early, at first I couldn't believe it but everything worked until I saw that the achievements weren't ready on Xboxlive. So I could play the game but earn no achievements. A minor problem since the achievements showed up on the 7th and I got them anyway. There's a lot you can say about this game but I try to focus on the fun and frustration bit the most, because that's usually what makes you want to play a game or not play a game.
The story doesn't matter?
You're a ghost, a member of an elite squad of soldiers, that is send to Bolivia to destroy the Santa Blanca (a Mexican drugs cartel) cartel. It doesn't matter in which order you do this but it makes sense that you start with the easy provinces and then slowly move on to the tougher parts of Bolivia. You create your own character so hopefully you picked someone you're happy with because the physical features can't be changed after you're done with the character creation menu. Is the story interesting? Sure it has some interesting moments, but I doubt many people truly care about the story because most people just want to jump into the game with their friends and mess around a bit. Why go in super stealthy when you can go in guns blazing? Just keep in mind that in some missions you need stealth otherwise you've failed the mission!
Solo or as a team?
I can already hear the lone wolves out there wondering, can I play this game on my own? Well you can! But it's tougher with bots because they're dumb as nails. You can give some specific orders to direct them a bit but I've seen some really dumb moments where the bots got themselves killed. For example a train was coming and I got off the tracks, one of the bots didn't and got hit. While the train was still going over the body of the bot that got hit another bot tried to revive him and got hit as well. The third bot would've been hit as well but the train was just gone at that point. Really dumb and really annoying if this happens during a fight with enemies. The good thing is that you don't have to wait for your team to get in a vehicle, if you take off before they get in a helicopter or car (with enough seats for everyone) they just teleport in and this doesn't just save time but is also safer when escorting a npc. When you play with other people then you have to wait for eachother and if you have asshole friends then they might think it's funny to leave you behind or blow your vehicle up with explosives. Keep in mind that friendly fire is on, this means you can hurt eachother with explosives! You or one of your team can also kill a npc so if this is a civilian or the objective then you're screwed! Playing this game with strangers might not be the smartest move, considering that there are probably a lot of people out there that want to make your life miserable and in this game they can make your life miserable, so if you don't have friends to play with then you shouldn't worry about playing with bots. Just remember that you'll have to do most of the work, you can improve their skills by making them deadlier (they do more damage) or tougher (it takes more damage for them to die). With synchronized shots it's also better to have bots, they will shoot the target(s) on your command and won't miss as long as they have eyes on the target, but with other people it's always a bit messy and don't be surprised if one person fucks it up and then the whole enemy base in on alert! But the game is ten times more fun with other people and I think it's also meant to be played this way, I guess you just have to figure out what works best for you!
Is this a fun or frustrating game?
It's absolutely a fun game, but there are unfortunately some frustrating moments. In some of the side missions you sometimes have to get from one point to another within a certain amount of time, these time missions are annoying and easy to fail. The same can be said about capturing a target alive, if you get spotted this target with immediately run for a vehicle and take off which also results in mission failure. Later in the game you will also have story missions where you can't be spotted or else the mission will fail, this can be extremely frustrating when you keep failing. Also escorting a npc can be frustrating, because there is at least one mission where the npc doesn't want to get in your car and wants to drive on his own and then takes the dumbest routes and gets into a lot of trouble while you have to do your best to keep him alive. Trust me when I say that this is frustrating and something you probably won't enjoy that much. The majority of the game is fun though, but the game becomes more difficult the further you get and the time to fuck around is then pretty much over, unless you enjoy failing a lot. I'm not saying that the game is difficult, it proves more challenges and that often means that you have to do your best or else you will most likely fail. I still think that fun dominates in this game, especially when you play with friends, so don't worry too much about the difficulty. Good team work and fun people to play with makes this game a lot of fun to play!
