Sinful Sunday: Why are you being a dick to other people?
The comment section on most sites is often bad, things that might start out nice will often turn ugly because some people prefer to be a dick instead of just being nice. Sometimes this is with responses and som people just post messages that they know will annoy others, because why not? You have every right to be a dick so why not be a dick?
You're not online to make friends?
When I first started playing online, it was in Guild Wars Factions in 2005, I wanted to meet other people and I loved being able to talk with other people. I would often meet other people in the courtyard of the starting area and talk with strangers. Some of them would actually be very nice and I made some friends. But these days it seems different, maybe I have changed but people online now don't seem to look for friends. In multiplayer people are just looking for team mates that don't suck and the moment things aren't going the way they like it they leave. This rage quitting is already one of the reasons why there is a lot of frustration and hostile behaviour online. Because rage quitters pretty much screw their team over and leave them to fend for themselves. this will often lead to more frustration and it also increases your chances to lose. So are people these days looking for friends? Well I think that some are, they join sites, groups or even clans just to make some friends with whom they can play. But what I see a lot are people that only play with friends, which means that strangers aren't welcome and often met with hostility if they join the team. I've seen this in games like Rainbow Six Siege where people would kick you from the match with a vote just because you joined their team. In Battlefield 1 there are also people who have these small squads of two or three people and don't want others to join. Of course they can do that but in my opinion it's dumb because you have a smaller squad and that makes it harder to beat squads on the other side when they do have a full squad. It's almost as if people just don't care about others anymore, people just want to play the game and not be bothered by anyone else. Which is probably also why a lot of people don't talk, they don't have their microphone plugged in and will refuse to communicate. This is dumb, especially on consoles because you get a mic when you buy the console, because you work much better as a team when you communicate and it will definitely improve your chances on winning. Even when people do decide to communicate then I can't help but notice how toxic some people are, as if everything that goes wrong is the fault of everyone else but they are not to blame. Sure...
It's easier to be a dick to someone than to be nice?
You would think that if you see how a lot of people behave online. Why be nice when you can be a dick to other people? I'm not saying we should all be super civilized and nice to eachother but at least try to keep the insults and toxic crap out of the team chat. Yes I understand that some people are frustrated but yelling at other people or passing around blame doesn't help your team, it will most likely make things worse! Do you know how many times I hear someone giving someone else in the team a compliment who isn't his or her friend? I can't even remember, I honestly can't remember the last time that happend but I bet it must have been years. Maybe it's because Xboxlive has a lot of immature and toxic player, but sometimes I can't help but get the idea that people are just less social and more hostile towards eachother. I'm not saying we should all be friends but why would you immediately be so hostile or rude to other people? I think we all just want to have a good time and that is most likely the reason why we play online multiplayer. It's just a shame that there are a lot of people out there that want to ruin things. Those that do this deliberately, the trolls, are already bad enough but now with the rise of toxic players it becomes less and less appealing to play online multiplayer and meet other gamers. I'm certain there are friendly people out there but sometimes it's difficult to believe in that when you're exposed to so much negativity. I guess it's just easier to be a dick online to others than to be nice. I really hope things get better in the future or I just don't see a future for me with online multiplayer, I mean who wants to be in a place with so much hate and frustration? I think I will prefer to hang around in single player games or stick to games I can just play with just my friends.
