Game tip: Evolve (now for free on Xboxlive for gold members)!

You might have heard about Evolve but have you ever played it? It's actually a fun game, best played with friends, and allows you to play as one of four hunters or as the monster. This 1 vs 4 game type allows for some serious cat and mouse games where the hunters sometimes become the hunted depending how things go.

Isn't 1 vs 4 unfair?

You would think so but keep in mind that the person playing as the monster can be become very powerful. You start as a stage 1 monster, this already makes you quite the challenge if the hunters aren't careful, but a fully evolved monster, stage 3, is a serious threat and then the hunters will have to do their best to actually win! It's the trick to find the monster and beat him or her before the monster become stage 3. At the same time the monster will do his or her best to stay under the radar and avoid the hunters for as long as possible until he or she is stage 3. That requires a lot of eating, so it's a good thing you can find a lot of food in the world and grow stronger. But it's not just about finding food. The monster can also lure the hunters to danger because when they track the monster they can sometimes be lured to danger and that could be the excellent moment for the monster to strike when the hunters are fighting one of the big dangerous animals on the planet. But the monster can also use this as time to get away and get more food to reach the next stage or safely evolve. As the monster you can also sneak, this makes it harder for the hunters to track you and might even let you slip by them. Each monster has his or her own playstyle, some work better for sneaking around and making stealth attacks while others are pretty much tanks and can take serious damage so they're good for full frontal attacks.

United we stand strong?

As a hunter you want to be near your team, splitting up can be extremely dangerous because divided you will fall much easier and if all hunters are down then the monster wins. But don't worry if one or more team mates are down or even dead, they'll come back after a certain amount of time but during this time you will most likely have to run for your life when the monster is chasing you! Remember that the hunters work best together. An assault hunter that keeps breaking away from the group isn't useful or helpful, this is a good way to get yourself killed because without the medic to heal you there isn't much hope for you to survive against an experienced monster. The trapper is specialized in holding the monster in place, pretty much forcing him or her to fight you or just make it an easier target to hit for the other hunters. The support is giving you support, depending on which character you play you can assist your team mates by giving buffs or actually helping the assault do more damage on the monster. The medic is the healer, some can heal one hunter at a time while others can heal multiple hunters at a time. There is even a hunter that can revive fallen hunters, so you can figure out what works best for you. The assault is the damage dealer, they all have a shield that makes them invulnerable for a moment so that should keep them alive long enough to deal some serious damage! Some of these assault hunters are very powerful if they are given the chance to do some damage. But no matter how useful you are, it's really as a team that you take down monsters!

What is the ultimate edition?

In the ultimate edition you get all the dlc so that mean the hunters from season 1 and 2 with it as well. That's a total of eight new hunters and some of them are actually pretty cool and fun to play as. They might not all be that interesting but most of them are definitely worth checking out and let's not forget that it's all free so all it costs you is some time to get familiar with the game and the characters. I think Evolve is a fun game but the problem I have with Evolve that it never keeps me entertained for long, for example after a week I was done with the game and when I bought season 1 and 2 last year I was done with that also within a week. But that's not a bad thing for a free game, this actually means you have something to fill up the time between now and games you want to play later or you have a game to fall back to if you ever get bored with another game. Evolve is definitely fun but best played with friends because on your own you can get tired of it really fast. The bots aren't terrible but things become repetitive really fast and not matter how much fun a game is there is only that much you can take until you've had enough of something. Check it out now on Xboxlive if you're a gold member and pick it up for free, it's definitely worth it!
