Youtube adventures part 12
It's not always easy to make videos, sure you can press record and capture some gameplay or make a vlog about something but if you don't put your heart in it then who would want to watch that? Ok I know there are several people on youtube that upload complete utter bullshit and still get a lot of views, so I don't want to give youtube viewers too much credit, but when you're relatively new to youtube you probably don't want to make videos that aren't fun to watch or at least interesting to watch. So stick with something you like and that you like to play and/or talk about. But the most important thing is...
Be yourself!
I sometimes see youtubers make videos that make me wonder why they made those videos, did he or she make that video because he or she is interested in that, wants to try something different or is just trying to get as many views as possible? One of those videos that makes my stomach turn are the reaction videos, half of the time this looks so fake and it's a sad attempt of people to get more views. On the thumbnail of the video you can already see the expression on the face of the youtuber, always surprised and/or shocked. I have no real hate for these people but it gets old real fast and it looks incredibly fake, but hey if that gets them views then it doesn't surprise me why they do it.
It's easy to steal someone elses idea, I mean let's just go back to the reaction videos and you can see these on several youtube channels. Then there are the let's play, some even name the videos let's play, videos that also appear on a lot of youtube channels. It's not really a crime to take someone elses idea for a video and make your own video with that, but I doubt it gets you any points for originality! At least if you care about something like that. I know that I've been tempted a couple of times to use someone elses idea and make a video of that, but I never did that because I prefer to make my own things and not copy ideas from other people.
The problem sometimes with being yourself is having doubts if being yourself is interesting enough to watch, for example you make a video with some gameplay and you do live commentary for that video but you don't know if people will like that. I mean will people like my voice? Will people like the game I'm playing? Is the video not too long or too short? Should I put some sound effects in the video or something else to make it a bit different? The answer to all these questions is actually not that difficult, do what you think is best. Sure you can have doubts and sometimes make a mistake, but you shouldn't let that cripple you and prevent you from making videos. There will always be people that won't like your videos and maybe you only get a couple of viewers, the most important part of making a video is that you're having fun making the video. Because if you're not having fun then the viewers will notice that pretty quickly and that makes the videos less fun to watch, unless it's a rage video and that attracts also certain people. But do you really want to be known as the rage guy or girl? Probably not...
What's important is that you embrace who you are, don't become someone you're not in your videos. If you're a bit wacky and silly then be that person in your videos! Don't try to be serious and professional, well if you really want to make a serious video then you could always do that but I would advice you to stick to what you like and do best. If you're serious and want to make some informative videos then that's not a bad thing either, I'm certain that there are people interested in that, but it's not a crime to be a bit less serious every now and then. Just do what you like and make videos you enjoy watching, I'd say at that point it's just a matter of time until other people will watch it and hopefully they'll like the videos as well.
