Fantasy games vs Realistic games

There are a lot of different genres in the world of games, but you can put most of them in two different groups. The first group of games are fantasy games and the second group of games are realistic games, both are popular and have their own fair share of fans and then there are people that like both type of games. But is one better than the other? What makes fantasy games more fun than realistic games or vice versa? Let's find out below!

Fantasy games.

I love fantasy games, they're perfect for losing yourself in a game and escape the misery of the real world. That's not completely without danger, some people are addicted to the fantasy world and hardly live their life in the real world, but as long as you play smart you should be ok. I love playing games where a lot of things are possible, where there is magic and mythological creatures roam around the land. Even when you're no one special in the real world, in the fantasy world you can be the hero of that world and save everyone. But at the same time you could also be bad and become an evil ruler and have everyone bow down to your will. I love fantasy games because of the possibilities, the adventures, the impact it has on me and how I can really lose myself in that world even if it's just for a couple of days. Games that left an impression on me are the Legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Final Fantasy VIII.

Realistic games.

I think that realistic games are more an aquired taste, I love playing some of them but I feel less freedom in these games. There are rules in these games that can't be broken, unless you feel like cheating or putting mods in the game, and that usually restricts my gaming experience. But that's not always a bad thing, in some games it's more interesting that you can't fly and actually have to run for your life to escape or find a car to chase someone or you're going to lose your target. As much fun as it is to shoot fire balls it's also fun to use guns and shoot someone. Wether you're the good guy or the bad guy it doesn't really matter in a game, it's fun and especially satisfying sometimes to just go on a rampage in a virtual city. Eventhough some game worlds look real they're not and I think most people that play these games know that, but of course these games make some people worried because they think that these are the games that inspire some people to do terrible things. I don't think that realistic games inspire people to do terrible things, people do terrible thing and if a game motivated them to actually do something bad then I doubt that anyone could've prevented it because if it's not a game then it would've been a movie or a comic or something else. Games that left an impression on me are GTA V, Saints Row 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Goldeneye 64 and the Sims 3 (for as far as you can call that realistic, it's a simulation game but it also has a lot of fantasy elements in it).

Is one better than the other?

I don't think that's the best way to put it, because you probably like one more than the other but that doesn't automaticly make the other bad. For example I like fantasy games a bit more but that doesn't mean I don't like realistic games, there are some realistic games I really enjoy playing and I find some of those even better than fantasy games I played. I like to mix things up, so play fantasy games one week and realistic games another week. That keeps things interesting and I really enjoy playing both types of games, it's silly to restrict yourself to one type. You probably enjoy one more than the other and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's good to try new and different things. So even if you enjoy playing fantasy games a lot I can definitely recommend trying out some realistic games and vice versa. Don't stick to one type because you'll miss out on a lot of fun games!
