Nobody wants to be the healer?
Being the healer in the team is an important job but sometimes it feels like nobody want to have that job. Can you really blame people for not wanting to be the healer? No I can't, because being the healer means dealing with all the frustration when you fail and even when you succeed a lot of people will not even thank you for the effort you made. Not that you need to be thanked for everything but some people treat healers as their personal lap dog, the moment someone doesn't get a heal when they ask for it then there are some people that give the healer a lot of hate. As if that makes the healer want to heal that person. Being the healer is hard work, I think it's the most difficult role of all in a team, and you often don't get a lot of reward or appreciation for it. So why would you want to be a healer?
It's fun to be a healer?
That depends, if you're someone that likes to walk up front and be very tough to kill then you might prefer to play as a tank or if you just like to do a lot of damage and get a lot of kill then you want probably prefer to be the damage dealer instead of the healer. But being a healer does have some perks, for example you can heal yourself and if your team works well together then you can expect others to guard you and keep you safe. Depending on the game you can also have other functions, for example in the game evolve the healer can also shoot with a sniper rifle and tranquilize the monster or give boosts to team mates so they move faster. In Team Fortress 2 the healer (aka the doctor or medic) can even become invulnerable (for a moment) together with the person he or she is healing. So being the healer definitely has perks, but it will also make you the number one target if you face other players. Because the healer is the first person you want to take out in a team because the healer can keep a team alive for a long time, at least if the healer does his or her job right.
So why do a lot of people don't want to be the healer?
Because some people think being a healer is boring, eventhough you'll see more action than most other roles in the group (at least if you heal in the frontlines). I personally don't like to be the healer because you often don't have a decent attack to defend yourself with, which means if you encounter enemies and there is no one of your team around to protect you then that often means that you're an easy target. I like to be able to defend myself and not become target practice for other players! But the thing is that every team could use a healer and that can really make the difference between winning and losing, because if no one heals you then that means you're going to die a lot faster and it makes you and the team a lot more vulnerable. It might seem like a sacrifice if you decide to be the healer and people might not always appreciate your work, but being a healer isn't something you do for glory but it's something you do for the team.
