Sinful Sunday: Helping new players or not?

We've all been new at some point to a game, in this time you learn how the control works and you try to memorize combos in a fighting game or the map and the spawn points in a first person shooter. Some people learn pretty fast, others need more time and then there are those that step into the game at a later time. So even if the game has been out for six months you can still encounter new players, but how do you treat new players? It's easy to kick them out of your team or ignore them for as much as you can, but let's not forget that we were all new at some point to the game and it's not fun when people treat you like shit just because you're new to the game!

Experienced players don't like new players?

Sometimes I get that impression, what some veteran players do like is to be in a team full of experienced players and facing a team full of new players. I don't think I have to tell you what happens to the team of new players. These noobs, newbies or rookies (I'm certain there are plenty of other words people use for new players) are most of the time just trying to learn the controls and get a feeling for the game, but this takes time and not everyone can pick up a game and be good at it within a couple of hours. I guess the reason why some experienced players don't like new players is because it will often lead to a defeat if the other team is full of experienced players, because new players often make mistakes or just need to learn how everything works and that sometimes leads to situations where they lose when they might have won if they were a bit more experienced. I think some veteran players just don't have the patience for new players, in some extreme cases veteran players consider themselves as being much better than the new players and refuse to play with them because they see them as something beneath them. I don't think new players really dislike experienced players, something I don't like as a new player is facing a team of experienced players and get butchered because of horrible matchmaking. If this happens once then that's bad luck, but if it happens ten times on one evening then it's bullshit!

Should you help new players?

I think it's a good thing when people try to help new players, that's a kind gesture towards new players and I think a lot of new players will appreciate that. Of course it's easy to take advantage of that, I mean there's a good chance to wreck a team of new players but you could also be supportive and give some tips instead of bailing on a team of new players. I must admit that I've done exactly that, the moment I saw that I was in a team of new players (in Rainbow Six Siege that means people under level 10) and that the other team has a lot of experienced players (level 100 or higher) so I didn't feel like sticking around because it's pretty much a guaranteed defeat. I know that's not nice but when this happens a lot of times, I've had an evening where I only got teamed up with low levels and constantly faced high level teams, then you get sick and tired of losing and just want to get a better team. Sure it's not nice but if you constantly lose because your team mates suck then you really have the urge to find more experienced players, that way you at least stand a chance against high level players. Is that really such a bad thing? Maybe it is but I like to win and the chances on winning become a lot lower when you have new players in your team and you face experienced players. So if you feel like helping new players then that's nice of you, but don't expect everyone to do the same. I don't mind helping but there are times where I just want to play and enjoy the game and that's a lot harder when I have to explain things every minute.
