Sinful Sunday: Everybody hates a winner?
I'm usually not a winner in a multiplayer match, oh sure in a team deathmatch I might be victorious but in deathmatch aka free for all I suck. So I personally haven't dealt with a lot of hate, but I know that there are people that get a lot of hate for being succesful. Wether that's with youtube videos, having a lot of friends or even just winning a match in online multiplayer.
Why do people in first place get a lot of hate?
Would you expect from the people that lost that they're all happy for the person that beat them? Among friends you might expect that and perhaps there are some rare examples out there that play competitive multiplayer but don't care if they win or lose but usually people aren't happy for the winner. I guess it also depends what kind of person the winner is, because if that person camps and then afterwards taunts the other players then you can expect a lot of hate. But even if someone is silent, doesn't do anything to make others hate him or her, that person would sometimes still get hate. Mostly because some people are just terrible losers, it's so difficult for them to accept defeat that they need to ventilate their negativity on someone else and what better target than the guy that just beat you.
So winning isn't as much fun as it might seem?
If you let the negativity get to you then it might be unpleasant, but I think it's just best to ignore and carry on. In Max Payne 3 multiplayer I finally had succes, I was actually good at that game and found myself nine out of ten times in the top three with deathmatch (that's very rare for me to find a game where I'm actually that good), so that's where I got a lot of hate from other people. Some people call you a cheater, because clearly the only way he or she could be beaten is with cheats, and then there are people that call you a coward is you don't want to rematch. The problem is that some people just can't handle defeat, even if you beat them three times in a row they still want to rematch and they still call you a cheater even if you barely won in some matches. But I never let that negativity keep me from enjoying the game and neither should you, if there's a game where you have succes then you should enjoy that while it lasts because sometimes you get succes in a game and then there are moments where everything seems to go wrong. It's important that you enjoy the good moments in games, that usually helps you through the bad moments. Winning might not be everything but it sure feels good!
