Playing a popular game on launch day

I think a lot of people want to play a new game as soon as possible and I don't disagree with that, because why would you wait when you can play the game on launch day? Well the problem is that you're not the only one who is going to play the game on launch day, which means for certain online games that you have to deal with a lot of frustration. Is that worth it or should you just wait a week or two before you start playing?

Playing a popular game on launch day is dumb?

I wouldn't call it dumb, but I think it's risky though. Especially with online games that require you to stay online to play the game, there are so many things that can go wrong with that and that will keep you from enjoying the game. Just look at the Division, I really enjoy playing the game but then I get sudden disconnects. Apparently a lot of people want to play this game at the same time and so the servers are not really handling things so well, which means you can get a random disconnect just like that. This doesn't happen once or twice, no this can happen every thirty minutes if not sooner. I don't think I have to explain how annoying that is. So I wouldn't call you dumb for playing a popular online game on launch day but it's a risk and I don't think that would really make you like the game more if you encounter issues with it on launch day already.

Why can't developers make a game that's good without any issues on launch day?

Making the perfect game seems like a fairy tale to me. Every game has issues, some have more issues than others and sometimes the issues are just slight problems that don't really have a huge impact on the game. But then there are also issues that completely make a game unplayable, unless you enjoy playing a game where you get kicked out of every thirty minutes and if that happens in the middle of a mission you have to start over again. It's rough dealing with games like that, because you either have to deal with the frustration or you put it away for some time and then play it a couple of weeks later. Unfortunately this doesn't guarantee anything, it could still be bad or maybe even worse. When it comes to connection issues then it's not really the fault of the developers, it means that too many people play the game at once and that causes problems. Maybe the developers could've anticipated that but can you really predict how many people would play the game at launch day? If a game has other issues, for example there's lag or there are glitches that make playing the game frustrating then it's probably a smart idea to wait a couple of days. Because these are issues that can be fixed with an update, unless it's also a problem caused by the mass amount of players that play the game at that time.

So should you play a popular game on launch day?

I think that's not a bad idea, but it does come with risks. If you don't mind taking those risks and you can handle the problems that could come with that then you should be fine. It will make things a bit more frustrating for you, so you might want to prepare yourself for that and it's also a good idea to not expose you to this frustration for too long. Instead of spending your entire evening or even day on the game you could just play it for a couple of hours. That probably sounds stupid but I think it's healthier to keep the frustration to a minimum than to expose yourself to that for hours. The moment I feel like kicking my console out of the window is usually the time where I stop playing, not just to save my console but also to keep the frustration from taking over. Games are meant to be fun, the moment you're not having fun anymore it's probably smart to take a break.
