Can games inspire you?

It's Spring! It's time to act like an idiot and flirt with other people, oh wait that's what you might expect in Spring but that's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about inspiration and I get a lot of that in Spring and Autumn, unfortunately in Autumn a lot of fun games come out so that usually means that I only have Spring to actually work with my inspiration and get things done.

How do games inspire you?

That would depend, I mean one person might be inspired more than the other (maybe some people aren't inspired at all), but it comes down to having that feeling of doing something creative or trying out something new. But it could also be that a game just makes you want to do something, the same way that some movies influence us when we watch those. With games it's pretty much the same because have you never had the urge to go larping(LARP = Live Action Role Play) after playing some Dragon Age? Hang around with friends at school after playing Bully? Play some paintball after you play a first person shooter? But sometimes it can even go so far that when people play certain first person shooters, for example Call of Duty and Battlefield, that they want to enlist in the army. That might seem ridiculous to you but it happens, games can inspire you to do certain things. But that doesn't mean that this counts for everyone, playing CoD or BF doesn't make you want to enlist in the army and just because you enjoy playing Dragon Age doesn't mean that you'll like larping as well. Some people are more easily affected by games  then others, it can be subtle for some and for others it's right in your face obvious. But it all comes down to you playing a game, how deep you go into this game world is up to you and it's also up to you how much time you want to spend on playing that game.

Is it also possible that something inspires you to make something in a game?

Of course! Just look at games like Minecraft or the Sims, these are games where you can let your creativity go crazy and make some interesting things. In Minecraft people build entire worlds full of works of art or make a replica of a city or building they like. I like to go crazy in the Sims 3 with my creativity, ideas for a new neighbourhood and the sims that live in that neighbourhood. It can be very satisfying to make something, to do something with your creativity and build something that makes you happy. The big down side of this is that it often takes a lot of time to build, for example creating your own neighbourhood (the layout of the land, the houses, the families and decorations) can take days if not weeks if you really want something interesting. It's easy to lose some motivation when you work on that, so it's good that you keep yourself motivated and let the inspiration fuel your enthusiasm to build, craft or create something! Unfortunately I don't have a big creative mind when it comes to making things in a game, but there are people out there that are amazing and can make pieces of art in a game.
