Sexy women in games help sell games better?
It's silly but I've wondered how (sexy) women can influence a person to buy a game or not, because it's not surprising to see a woman in a sexy outfit on the cover of a game or slapped on advertisement for a game. So apparently some people think that sexy women sell games, this is even a thing at the E3 where women dressed up in certain outfits are there to promote certain games. You could say that some people are interested in the game, but to be honest a lot of people also like to hang around with attractive women that would normally not give them a second of their time. Is it bad for games that women are used to help them sell games or is this something that doesn't really matter?
There's nothing wrong with putting a (sexy) woman on the cover of a game?
Not really, eventhough in some cases it doesn't make a lot of sense. For example with Guild Wars (and the Guild Wars expansions) you would often find an attractive woman on the cover of that game and the expansions, but that woman would have very little to do with the game itself. So you can imagine that it feels like the developers just tried to lure people to the game with the attractive woman on the cover. But did that really convince them to buy the game?
Attractive women don't sell games?
I'm certain that it can influence people, especially to lure people (not to the dark side) and check out a game but to really buy it is something else. Sure GTA V has that blonde woman in the red bikini but did that convince people to buy the game? No, people bought GTA V because the game looks interesting, they were convinced by the gameplay and the good reviews of the game. So yes an attractive woman might have some influence, but I'd say it's more to get the attention of (certain) people. To actually sell a game the game still has to be good, because you don't sell a shitty game by just putting an attractive woman on the cover!
How do women feel about attractive women on the cover of a game?
I doubt that this makes much of a difference to them, because women that play games probably don't really care what is displayed on the box cover. Just like other gamers they just want to check out new games and play them. But maybe some women like it and others hate it, does it really matter? I've asked some female friends of mine, that play games, how they feel about how women are sometimes displayed on the cover of a game or in the advertisement of a game. Do you know what they said? I don't care, I play a game because I like it and not what is on the cover of a box or what the advertisement is showing. They're right, it doesn't matter and it shouldn't matter. I do know that some women are upset how sometimes women are displayed in games but does it really matter? No it doesn't, it's just a game.
