Sinful Sunday: Snobs in games

When you play with other people, usually people you don't know, then there's a chance you'll meet a snob. What is a snob that you encounter in a game? It's someone that doesn't want to play games with you because he or she thinks he's/she's better than you or thinks you're not good enough to play with him or her. This has usually something to do with your level in a game or in some games people also look at k/d ratio to judge you. But is this fair?

Not everyone that rejects you is a snob?

There's a good chance that a clan or team doesn't want to play with you because of your level or k/d ratio, of course it's their decision to make and it's easy to call them snobs. But when you want to join a clan or team then there's a chance that they only allow people to join of a certain skill level or people with experience. Having a low level can be a good sign that you don't have a lot of experience in a game and a low k/d ratio can point towards less skill in a game. But this doesn't have to prove anything! Someone with a low level can play with an alternate character (another character than their main character in a game, for example in games like WoW or Destiny), so they can actually be quite experienced but now happen to play with a character that is a lower level and they try to level that one up a bit. Having a low k/d doesn't always mean you're bad, you can have some bad luck where you face teams that work well together and you're in a team of randoms that don't work well together and you might even end up in an almost empty team where you face four to five people all alone. Also campers can have a high k/d but often suck at the game when they actually move around, so k/d ratio doesn't have to mean a thing!

Is it stupid to reject new players?

I think it is, because at some point we were all new to a game and we all had to learn. If you don't give people a chance to learn and teach them some tricks they might never improve and you are missing out on a potential good player in your clan or team. In a way you can invest in new players, you help them and in return they can help you with missions or PvP. Of course it makes sense that some people prefer veterans, but if everyone starts rejecting new players then nobody will learn the game and after awhile the game will bleed dry if you keep refusing new blood. The most important thing about gaming is having fun, so have fun and what better way to have fun is to play with other people?
