Sinful Sunday: Lazy developers?

It seems easy to make a game, but then once you try something it turns out that it's not so easy. There are people that made something incredible, but usually it takes a whole lot of people together to make something. This can lead to something great or something not so great, especially with the last result you have to wonder if they're deliberately sabotaging their own game or that they're just lazy.

Games become repetitive?

That's a danger, seeing a game series turn into repetitive nonsense that's just not worth playing anymore. So as a developer you have to stay fresh and creative, but at the same time gamers there are gamers that hate change and want things to stay the same. You could say if developers would listen only to gamers that it would lead to some weird and unplayable games. Because one person wants this and the other person wants that, you can't make everyone happy and that means doing what they think is best. But is that always the best for a game?

Games aren't always what you expect?

Unfortunately not, sometimes that's not a bad thing but usually it is. My most recent experience with this happened in Metal Gear Solid V the Phantom Pain, because halfway in the game you suddenly get the exact same missions but then on a higher difficulty (extreme, which means you die a lot faster and enemies have better gear), you start with nothing (subsistence, you only have your bare hands to defend yourself and you can only use what you find during the mission) or where you have to stay undetected during the mission (total stealth, if an enemy spots you it's game over). These are nice challenges and I don't mind that, what I mind is how they put those during the second part of the game as standard numbered missions and it kind of ruins the story for me. I don't know whose brilliant idea that was but I feel cheated here, playing the exact same missions twice but then on a higher difficulty. That just seems lazy to me, but that's my opinion. Maybe you like it and don't mind it, I guess I just expected more from Metal Gear Solid V...

Sequels are sometimes the same as the previous game?

That's even worse than repetitive missions and getting the same missions/levels twice, to get a whole new game that is almost exactly like the previous game. Do you remember Dead Island Riptide? Well that's a good example, sure it's another island and you can level up further but it's pretty much the same thing. Oh you get a fifth playable character? It's still the same game as Dead Island! I can't help but get the feeling that sometimes developers are just trying to make a quick buck with some games, quality and originality are thrown out the window and you're stuck with some lame game. Of course it's up to the people to actually buy these games but often I get the idea that people are tricked into buying them. Which is why I recommend to do some research (read game magazines and check youtube videos with gameplay to name some things) before you buy a game, because the last thing you want is to buy a game that disappoints you or even annoys you. It's a waste of your money and there are a lot of other games you could buy that are more fun than repetitive games!
