Don't starve giant edition
With all the big titles launching you'd almost forget about the less familiar titles, eventhough Don't starve definitely has some fans and you can watch a lot of videos of the game on youtube. Xbox One players finally get the chance to play this game as well on the console so if you're curious about this game then feel free to read some more But how much fun is this game actually? Let's find out!
Who are you and what do you do?
That's simple, you play as Wilson (a scientist) and you try to survive. But that wouldn't do the game justice to just leave it at that, especially when you look at all the possibilities and chance you get in this game to make it a cool adventure. The danger of the game doesn't always present itself during the day, it's the nights you have to be careful of because that's when the monsters can get you when you're in the dark without light so you better make a campfire or have a torch on you! You also need to eat, if you don't eat you starve and the title of the game kind of warns you not to starve! There are also a lot of creatures in the world that want to kill you but with weapons you can defend yourself and fight them. What's cool in this game is that you can determine what type of world you start in, wether you want to start in Summer or Winter or if you want longs days or long nights but also what type of things you might encounter in that world or what not. This can definitely help you survive or make it harder for you if you enjoy a challenge. But the idea is still the same, you need to survive! That's tricky for new players and it might take you some time to get familiar with it, but it's fun to discover new things and become a better survialist in the process. Besides even if you die you gain experience for the amount of days you survived and then you can unlock new character.
There's more than one playable character?
Yes, you start as Wilson but you can unlock more character by surviving as many days as you can and then when you die you'll be able to unlock new character if you survived enough days. Even if you didn't you can always try again and the experience you gain from those number of days is added to what you previously had. So everyone can unlock new characters, some just do it a bit quicker then others. One of the first characters you unlock is Willow, she has a lighter and can set things on fire and at the same time fire doesn't hurt her so when a group of enemies is chasing you then you can lure them in the forest and set it all on fire. You'll waste wood but get rid of some enemies. Besides you don't need a torch to survive at night. Another character you unlock quickly is Wolfgang, he's the strong man and can do more damage to monsters but he needs more food to stay strong so that can work against you. The last character I unlocked so far is Wendy and she is weaker when it comes to slaying enemies but has a flower that can summon the ghost of her dead twin and she isn't afraid of the dark (but that doesn't keep you safe in the dark). There are more characters to unlock but instead of me telling you about them you can figure that out yourself!
So what is the Giant edition?
It's dlc for the game that makes things a bit tougher for you. You now have two more seasons in the game that will test your skills even further. For example Spring is a wet season and makes everything soggy and less effective (food to name an important thing) and you can get cold in Spring, it's much worse in Winter though, and freeze to death if you're not by a campfire. You can also adjust these settings in the menu before you start so if you want a short season then you can do that and also make certain it doesn't rain or that there is no lightning, which makes it easier but at the same time also a bit more boring. What's cool is that you can turn the giant edition dlc on or off, so if you don't want that then you leave it off and otherwise turn it on. My advice as a new player is to turn it off, you'll have enough trouble trying to survive Winter the first time so you might want to take it easy on yourself! This game can be a challenge but it's definitely worth checking out, the best thing is that it's for sale on Xboxlive if you're a goldmember so if you want to play this game then now is a good time!
