Metal Gear Solid V Online sucks?
Let me first say that I enjoy playing Metal Gear Solid V, I have a lot of fun with the freedom I have in the side ops and that I can play the way I want to play without being forced into situations I'm not comfortable with. For example that you have to use a certain weapon or you're stuck with a buddy you don't like. Ok some story missions are a bit lame, in my opinion, but looking at the big picture it's a fun game to play. But then there's online mode, that's where things go bad...
What's wrong with the online mode?
One of the first things I noticed is that the loading screens are longer, which is annoying and that alone would already be a reason why I would prefer the offline mode. But there's more! After mission 22, no spoilers, you can create FOBs (forward operating bases) and the game forces you into this the next time you open your idroid. Just so you know, you can't travel to another place or do much without opening your idroid so you're really forced into this mess. Then in some type of tutorial you have to buy some open water in an ocean to build your FOB, but this is where it goes wrong for me. Everytime I buy the water for the FOB the game just stays stuck in that action of buying it, which makes it impossible for me to back out or do anything else but restart my Xbox One. Since you can't skip this it means you'll have to play in offline mode anyway because it's impossible to do anything in the online mode as long as this issue isn't fixed!
But online mode offers some nice extra options, right?
If you enjoy playing against other people or invading the base of someone else (with the risk that your base can also be invaded and people steal your stuff) then that can be fun for you. The online multiplayer seems interesting but it's not something I'm looking for, when I first heard of Metal Gear Solid V I wasn't thinking about multiplayer and I certainly didn't ask for that either! But it's nice that people can enjoy that, what I don't like is that whenever you start up the game you're automaticly in online mode, so you always have to disconnect in the game and go manually into offline mode. If everything would work and this was purely optional (shoving the FOB tutorial in your face in the story isn't optional!) then it would be fine with me. But it's not, not completely at least. I really don't know what the developers were thinking with Metal Gear Solid V Online but it's not something I like and something I'm trying to avoid as much as I can because so far it's just giving me frustration instead of fun!
