Gamers want slow first person shooters?
It's something you see in almost every Halo, CoD and perhaps even Battlefield video on youtube, people that want the old style back. What is the old style? Games with no high jumps, wallrunning, special powers (for example an ability you can activate that will annihilate other people in the game) and no evading dash. Sure that seems sweet but that does set us all back five to ten years, the question is do we all really want that?
Things are going too fast?
Maybe I'm getting old but I have noticed how some games decide the fate of someone in an ecounter within a second, so you can hardly blink and you're already dead! This makes it difficult for people who have less skill or trouble with keeping up to play such fast games. Which means that some of those people will resort to camping or play the older first person shooters without all the fast gameplay. Personally I don't mind how things are going, Black Ops 3 is looking good and when I played it in the Beta I was having a lot of fun with it. Sure it's faster and it takes some time to get used to it, but you can learn the controls and use them to your advantage. Remember you don't have to use the high jump, wallrunning or special power. But it will certainly make it easier to win or at least get some kills in the game.
So no more slow first person shooters?
It doesn't look that way, the tone has been set and it seems that a lot of first person shooters are riding on the high speed train of succes. Because no matter how many people complain, there are still thousands out there that do enjoy or at least play these faster first person shooters. It could be that this is just a temporarily thing, that in several years from now we're back in the slow first person shooters or perhaps there's something new then. It's difficult to say what the future will bring but at this point it's probably going to be faster and more complex.
But what if you don't like fast first person shooters?
Suprisingly you'll find quite a lot of people still playing in the old first person shooters, at least if that's still possible, so you can still play that if you really want to. If you truly do not want to play fast first person shooters then you can always try something else, for example try your luck with third person shooters like Gears of War or GTA Online. I wouldn't give up on the slow first person shooters yet though, there's always a chance that a new WW II game will come out and if that's a first person shooter then it can't be with the fancy tech and insane movement in multiplayer!
