What's new in Destiny year 2?
Big changes are coming to Destiny, not just the Taken King dlc but also a lot of things you're probably familiar with now will change. Now before you scream bloody murder I would like to add that these changes look good, they actually improve things and that makes Destiny more fun to play. In the end that's what it's all about for me, having fun playing a game!
A new way of leveling up.
You still have a light level, but this works different now. You see it's not that an item has 20 light anymore, now it says how much attack or defense an item has and that will determine your total light level. Another good thing is that you can level up to 40 (instead of 20), the light level determines how much damage you do with attacks and how strong your defense is against attacks. So a higher light level now makes you tougher to kill and allows you to do more damage. A lot of things add up to this light level, also your class item (warlock bond, titan mark and hunter cloak) and your ghost shell will add to your total light level and a bad piece brings down the total light level. From what I heard it's now possible for everyone to reach the max level, I've heard this before but they seem to be pretty optimistic about it this time because you level up by just doing quests, bounties, play in the crucible or strikes if that's your thing. So you level up as you did before the light levels in the first year of Destiny, so now everyone can reach the highest level and you won't be stuck at 38 or 39 as long as you keep playing and earn more experience!
Quests and bounties.
You can now have up to 16 bounties active at once and the best thing is that you can track them. Track them? Yes you can track how much progress you have with a bounty without having to go to the menu screen. Now you just pull up your ghost, the same way you would if you want to summon your sparrow, and you can see bounties and quests you track and how much progress you've made with that. This makes multitasking easier and makes the gameplay faster without leaving you exposed in a menu screen when you want to check your progress with a mission and/or bounty. What's probably the best thing is that you can turn in your bounty without having to return to the tower, just click on the completed bounty and you're done! Quests can be tracked and you can now see what you get exactly when you complete a quest, so a heavy weapon upgrade means you get a new heavy weapon. So it's less vague and more straight forward which is a nice improvement.
Spark of light.
Every Destiny player that buys the Taken King and plays it for the first time gets a spark of light, this is something that can automaticly level up a character that isn't yet level 25 all the way up to level 25. So new players get a chance to get right into the action, because they also automaticly the right gear for the character that he or she would need at level 25. This makes it more tempting for new players to join and it makes it more tempting to try a new class if you haven't done so already because some people only have one or two classes on their profile. I can see how some Destiny veterans find this unfair but try to see it from the perspective of new players, getting into a game where everyone is a much higher level and you have to get through those first levels can be tough. So it's nice that you can at least get one character on a higher level a lot quicker. The starting line for the Taken King is level 25 so if you haven't reached that or if you're new to the game then you can at least get started immeditately with one character.
