Looking back at.....Final Fantasy X-2!

After Final Fantasy X I was curious how the story would continue, as anyone that played and finished the game knows that the ending leaves some room for speculation. So I was happy at first when I heard that there would be a sequel, but then I saw what the sequel was and I was a bit less happy. I'm not saying Final Fantasy X-2 is a bad game, it's just not what I expected and what I like if I have to be honest.

A game for girls?

That's one of the first things I thought when I saw some gameplay from FF X-2, but that's of course silly because games are for everyone and not specically for guys or girls. But certain things in the game do feel a bit girly to me. I'm not talking about you playing as a girl in a team with two other girls, I'm talking about the whole dressing up power change thing. What does that mean? Well if you want another role for your character you have to switch to another costume, each costume gives the wearer another role so you could be with every character every role. For example the main Character Yuna can be a warrior, a mage, a thief and a healer to name some classes. That's cool, but the whole dress up idea behind it is a bit less cool in my eyes.

Three against the world!

The big exception with this Final Fantasy game isn't just that this is a sequel but also that there are only three people in your team. So no party of six or seven as you saw in several other Final Fantasy games. The reason for that is because every character can assume the role of every class, at least if they have the costume for that class. My problem with this is that it makes things a bit less interesting, sure Yuna's search for her friend Tidus is interesting but I wouldn't mind seeing other characters besides these three with their own stories and backgrounds mingle in the main story. There is a bit of that with the two other characters, but that plays such a small role. Rikku and Paine, the other two female party members, aren't bad but just not that interesting in my opinion. But that doesn't mean they're a bad team, they're actually pretty good and they'll have to combine their powers to beat some nasty enemies.

Worth checking out.

I'd say most people that played Final Fantasy X would like to check out Final Fantasy X-2, if only to see how the story continues and see some familiar faces in FF X-2. So in a way it's definitely a game for the fans and not for someone that just stumbles on this game. I would definitely advice you to first check out Final Fantasy X before you play Final Fantasy X-2, eventhough the games are quite different from eachother. If you can sit through some girl talk, dressing up animations when you switch costumes and some pop songs then you should be ok and might even like FF X-2!
