Music in a game is important?
You don´t always realize it but music plays a big role in games, in some games more than in others but that doesn´t take away the effect it can have on you. It can make an awesome moment epic and a scary moment terrifying! At the same time there is sometimes also a lot of emotion in music, for example when someone dies in a game then that moment becomes so much more intense when you hear sad music. While romantic tunes make a moment you spare with someone special in the game almost unforgettable.
The first time music really meant something to me in a game was in the legend of Zelda: the ocarina of time. Even now I sometimes whistle some of the tunes you learned on your ocarina, that´s actually quite interesting that a game has such an impact on someone. Final Fantasy VII and VIII quickly followed, games with soundtracks that are masterpieces! We thank these works of art from the genius composer Nobuo Uematsu, who made a lot more brilliant works of art. It truly made Final Fantasy games that didn´t just look amazing, but also brought you so many emotions while playing these games. Once again the power of music in games can do so much more than just give you something to listen to.
At the same time music can also make a disturbing game a living nightmare! Because seeing monsters approach you might be scary, but hearing strange noises and an eerie tune in the background is ten times scarier! It made Silent Hill 2 very disturbing and I´m not just talking about what happened in the game, it´s the moments when you´re in the dark and your radio is going berserk with static that you know there´s something there but you don´t see anything. When you then hear haunting music in the background it makes you wish you never played this game, but at the same time you want to beat this game and push yourself to go further!
More recently I heared the soundtrack of Destiny and it´s amazing! In the game you have some fights that might not be that spectacular by themselves, but with the music they become epic! This makes playing the same level twenty times a bit less frustrating when you hear music that is absolutely amazing! So I hope that music keeps playing a big role in games, it can make a game even more better than it already is and a moment in a game unforgettable!
