D4 (Dark Dreams Don´t Die)
Have you played this game already? To be honest I didn´t think much of this game when I first heard of it but since it´s free (season one) on Xboxlive I couldn´t help but give it a try. To call this game weird would be an understatement, but weird doesn´t mean bad! The story is also a bit vague, especially at first, but at least you don´t have too much trouble with making progress because the game isn´t really that difficult. But it´s definitely weird!
So what can you expect from D4?
You play as David Young and you´re some kind of psychic detective, you try to solve the murder on your wife and you have the ability to travel back into time to investigate crimes. Yes that sounds pretty weird and that´s exactly why I call it a weird game! But the characters in this game are just as weird as the story, some are just a bit odd while others are just crazy! This makes the game probably a bad choice for people who take the story seriously, because you probably won´t feel at home in this game. But no matter how crazy the game gets I still feel the urge to push further, I want to know what happens next and figure out what happened to David´s wife.
What about the gameplay?
The gameplay is made for the Kinect, which means if you play with the controller that things will be a bit uncomfortable. Oh sure you can move your character around but the controls feel a bit weird to me every now and then. Maybe I still need to get used to them but it´s a bit more like point and click than actual movement. If that´s fine with you then you´re in luck, if you hate that then you might have a rough time in this game. You also have QTE (Quick Time Events) to keep your from falling asleep, as if you could in this strange game, and most of them aren´t that difficult (at least with the controller). Mistakes will costs you life point and when your life is 0 then you´re done (as in dead), you also have stamina and that will slowly reduce the more you play. You can regain stamina by eating or drinking, don´t worry about that because if you pay attention there is usually some food around.
Why should you play this game?
Because this is an interesting game that makes you laugh and at other times amazes you, you never really know what to expect and I actually like that. It´s fun to play and eventhough the controls aren´t really my friend (so far) I´m still having fun playing the game. It´s not as subtle as Broken Sword (a point and click game I really enjoy playing) but the story will most likely suck you in and motivates you to keep playing to get some answers. So if you like games that are different and you like mysteries then you´re in for some D4!
