Cheesing it?
Have you ever heard of the term cheesing it? Somehow this is a big deal in games like Destiny. I´m not saying that it´s ok but to make such a big deal out of it seems a bit ridiculous. Especially when you might be doing it by accident or it´s the only way for you to make it through a strike or raid. Does that make you a bad person? I guess that depends who you ask but I understand that people that play alone a lot use different strategies than people that play together with others a lot. So this lone wolf behaviour sometimes doesn´t go well with teamwork, eventhough some people just use cheap tactics because that takes less effort for them to succeed. Are you already getting an idea what cheesing it means?
What does cheesing it mean?
It usually comes down to using cheap tactics, as in taking advantage of something in the game that makes things a bit easier, to compete a strike or raid (for example in Destiny). It might not surprise you that there are always people out there that look for ways to get through a strike or raid without too much effort and still get the rewards for it. Unfortunately you also have the type that stays in the back and doesn´t really contribute to the victory, but I usually call these type of players leeches. I´ve also heard stories of other gamers where they encounter people that have a much higher level than the enemies and still camp from a spot where the enemies can´t get to him or her. Maybe you don´t consider that as cheesing it but it´s a cheap tactic especially when you´re a much higher level than the enemies. Of course there is also the classic keep using the same trick move in fighting games or any other game where such a trick could easily secure the victory for you.
Why do so many people hate cheesers?
I think people that truly hate cheesers are people that play the game fair and square, they don´t exploit anything and play the game as it was meant to play. So to see someone take advantage of something and win because of that just rubs them the wrong way. The worst part is when you have one of these people in your team, I´m not saying that they won´t be much of a help but there is a good chance that their tactic won´t work well with the tactics of the others in the team. It´s nice when you get the reward but earning the reward is half of the joy, at least to some people, so when people get the reward by using cheap tactics it just takes away the joy of getting it. Well maybe a very nice reward makes it less annoying but some people take this very seriously! Maybe people are just being too serious and shouldn´t tell others how to play a game, but then again not every gamer works well with other gamers.
