Sinful Sunday: New Year´s Resolutions
It´s not difficult to make some New Year´s resolutions, but it might be difficult for you to keep them. I don´t think that you´re doomed when you don´t stick to your resolutions but if it´s something you were honest about then you probably feel like crap later for not sticking to your resolutions. In case you don´t give a flying fuck about that then nothing has really changed, but I don´t understand why you would make resolutions anyway if you don´t plan to stick to them!
So what are your resolutions? Popular resolutions are losing weight, you quit smoking, do good (become a volunteer), spend more time with family and friends. As simple as these might sound for some people this can be difficult, especially smoking is a tricky one because a lot of people just can´t quit or it only lasts for a certain amount of time and then they start smoking again. This is why I think it´s smart to have a resolution partner, someone that motivates you to stick to your resolutions and you do the same for the other person. Ok this might seem lame but it does help!
Why would I tell my New Year´s resolutions to someone else? To help yourself out, at least if you´re serious about your resolutions. Of course it does help if the person you trust with your resolutions is someone you trust and is also looking for someone to help him or her out with his or her resolutions. This means it can´t just be someone you know, but someone you actually trust and will help you as much as he or she can. The last thing you want is that other people learn about your resolutions and make fun of you, so be careful!
If you think you´re strong enough to complete your resolutions on your own then feel free to do so, I´m just saying that it´s easier with a friend. That doesn´t make it impossible on your own and you feel a bit more accomplished when you succeed on your own. This will most likely work with certain resolutions like trying to be a better person or being more social. It´s tougher to lose weight or to stop smoking on your own, even with a friend it might be a challenge but at least you have support.
But what if you break your New Year´s resolutions? Well you don´t go to hell for that, for as far as I know... The trick is to not make it too hard on yourself, don´t put yourself on an impossible task and it helps if you know your own limits. So don´t try to lose weight like crazy in one month and then suffer an eating frenzy the next month, this doesn´t help you and doesn´t make you happy. You have a whole year to work on your resolutions so I doubt there is a need to rush things, just take things one day at a time and you should be ok. If you do fail with your resolutions then there is always a new chance next year.
