Practice makes you a better gamer?

When you´re new to a game (especially when you´re new to playing games) then it´s sometimes rough to beat the veterans, it can be quite frustrating when they beat you in every match and even have time to humiliate you. Of course this calls for revenge but what can you do when you´re absolutely awful in that game?


Practice makes perfect?


Yes and no, because no matter how much practice you get there are sometimes people out there that are just better than you in a game. This sucks and it´s probably not what you want to hear, but unfortunately this is the truth. But don´t let that stop you from trying to be better, because even if some people might be out of your reach that doesn´t mean that you can´t become a better player. You can´t win them all and I don´t think it´s healthy to play like that, as long as you´re having fun with some succes then you should be having a good time!


Succes makes games more fun?


I think it´s safe to say that, especially when you´re the one that carries the team towards victory. Because if you´re the guy that dies a lot in a game and not get the points then you´re more like dead weight in the team and you don´t want to be that! But even when you´re not the best it still feels good if you did your part to secure victory. As long as you did good, even when you lose, in the team then you can be happy about that.


So it´s not stupid to practice against bots or in private matches?


It´s not stupid, but you might want to move on to online matches if you truly want to improve your skill because bots and friends can only help you improve that much. But improving your aim and reflexes will definitely help in your average first person shooter. It also helps if you know the controls and the maps, this counts for all types of multiplayer games and so it´s not a bad idea to investigate these maps on your own before you enter a multiplayer match. Preparation is often the key to victory!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet!
