Sinful Sunday: Help or ignore other players?
Whenever I´m in an online open world game I do my own thing, I don´t really care about other people and just want to have fun with quests and adventures. But eventually you´ll meet other people, wether you like it or not, and then there will be moments that they might need help. So what do you do?
Helping others is a good thing?
You would think that, but unfortunately not everyone likes it when you assist them. I´ve even met people that were angry at me that I revived them and made it their mission to chase me around hitting my character, it´s weird how some people just can´t accept help or are so hostile towards other players for just being nice. I would like to add that this behaviour often happens without any form of communication, so no messages or voice chat to help figure out what their problem is. It´s strange though that people would refuse help when some enemies are too tough to take on yourself and in some missions you actually need other players to advance. But I guess some people just don´t play well with others...
So it´s better to ignore other people in an online world?
That´s probably not a smart idea, because one person isn´t the other and some people are actually happy that you help them with something. It´s also a good way to make new friends, not that every person you help is looking for friendship but at least it gives off a friendly signal and if the other person wants to team up then you already made the first step by helping out. But I do realize that in games where there are a lot of unfriendly or immature players that you´re less motivated to deal with other people, it makes sense that you do your own thing and stay out of the business of other players. I guess it really depends on what type of gamer you are, do you enjoy playing with others or are you more of a lone wolf?
Female characters are more likely to get attention and help from other players?
You´re not wrong to think that, eventhough most guys would probably assume that most female characters are controlled by a guy. But why help a female character and not a male character? Who knows, maybe it´s something in male DNA that wants to help out women (maybe not always for the obvious reasons) but leave men (perhaps because they could be considered as competition) to die in a game. It wouldn´t be the first time that two people got together because they met in a game, so it´s not completely ridiculous to assume that something good can come out of kindness towards someone else. But to assume that from the start and have that as you main motivation to help female characters is probably a bad idea. Just have fun playing the game and if you want to help someone out then that´s up to you, I don´t think anyone can force you to do that...unless you would get an achievement or trophy for it then you would have a good reason to do it as well!
