Games are made for guys only?
I´m not surprised that some people actually believe that, especially when you look at certain games where the guys look like they could kill you just by staring at you and women look ridiculously attractive. But this doesn´t count for all games, some games are sometimes the opposite where the woman is the tough bad ass while the guy just stands there for appearance. Unfortunately that doesn´t take away the fact that a lot of games lean towards men.
There are more male gamers than female gamers?
That might actually be right, but the rise of the female gamer isn´t a myth and this might have some influence on what type of games you can expect. No longer is multiplayer dominated by male characters, now you can also make your custom female characters in games, something that MMORPGs already have for years. Besides is there really a game out there that screams for men only? Maybe you think women are too scared to play surival horror games or are incapable of playing a fast first person shooter, well you´re wrong! Men might outnumber the women online but for how long?
It´s more fun to play games with women than it is with men?
To be honest I don´t really check with whom I play online multiplayer games, so I couldn´t say for certain. When I play with friends then it doesn´t really matter as well, eventhough some of my female friends claim that they don´t care who wins or loses (clearly they care or they just like to see me lose). I don´t think it really matters, because both men and women can be horrible both online and offline in games. I do think because there are more men playing online that there is a bigger chance to have a negative experience in a game with a guy than with a girl.
So are games really made for men?
Maybe some games are, but definitely not all of them! I doubt that any developer would say out loud that his or her game is only for men or women, so officially there are no male or female only games. But it´s not that weird that Barbie games are more likely played by girls while race games are more likely played by guys, that doesn´t take away the fact that there are guys that play Barbie games and girls that like race games. Also let´s not forget that women have been playing games in times that there were hardly any playable female characters, so perhaps it´s not that important to them or they´ve just gotten used to that. Games are for everyone, well at least if you´re the right age to play certain games. Not that this would stop some people from playing those games anyway...
