Looking back at.....Guild Wars 2!
I was very excited about this game, because Guild Wars Factions was my first encounter with the mmorpg genre and I had a lot of fun in that game. So it made sense that I wanted to give Guild Wars 2 a chance, the awesome trailers and screenshots took away any doubt I had at that time. All I had to do is wait for the game to launch and it finally did on the 28th of August 2012.
What did you think of the game?
I loved the game, I played the game every day for hours and kept that going for a month! I worked hard (in the game of course) to earn enough gold to buy blue gems (this is what you need to buy items in the game shop and yes you can also use real money to buy blue gems but I never did) so I could unlock more character slots (you start with five) so I could make all classes (total of 8) and try out all races (total of 5). This did ruin the game eventually for me, spending too much time in a game and then mostly grinding sucks the fun out of any game. That didn´t mean that I hate it, it´s just that too much of something isn´t good and I played Guild Wars 2 just a bit too much for too long.
So you hate this game?
Of course not! I like this game but I just kind of lost interest after my month of grinding and unlocking all classes and races, I felt like I lost purpose to keep playing and eventhough I reached level 52 with my engineer I just lost interest in playing. This is mostly my own fault for pushing myself so hard to earn a lot of gold, because the price for blue gems went up (which means that you had to pay more gold for the exact same amount of blue gems) and I wanted to buy what I needed as fast as I can so I didn´t need to pay extra. It wasn´t a dumb idea it just ruined the game for me and it took me months to get back into the game but it never felt the same to me. I guess I learned an important lesson there that too much of something isn´t a good thing and you shouldn´t rush a game for whatever reason that might be!
Would you recommend this game to other gamers?
Absolutely! It´s a fun game as long as you don´t rush yourself or force yourself with it, just take your time and you´re in for a lot of fun with an interesting storyline. You can pick from different factions later in the game and you will eventually move to more mixed lands (depending on your race you have your own starting area) where you´ll meet players who play as a different race then your character, eventhough some will visit your starting area (especially higher level characters). There is a lot to do and the crafting and exploring is quite big in this world, so I doubt you´ll get bored with the possibilities! Just be smart and enjoy the game, don´t rush yourself in it or you might face the same issues I have. But eventhough I don´t play this game that much anymore, I still think it´s fun and definitely worth checking out if you haven´t done so already!
