Games or DLC?

It´s not always easy to make decisions, especially when you don´t have a lot of money and you do want to buy a lot of things. This will sometimes mean that you´ll have to choose to buy a new game or decide to buy dlc for a game you already have, because having both can be a bit expensive. So what do you do?

Games take priority? That´s how I would see it about ten years ago, dlc wasn´t as big as it´s now and definitely not as common. When you´re done with a game then that was it, oh sure you could play it again but there wasn´t really any hope that you´d get dlc to introduce new things into your ´old´ game. So it makes sense you would spend your money on new games, at least that´s how it was for me. But things change, more and more interesting dlc became available and it really started to feel like I was missing out if I didn´t buy it. For example zombie maps in Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are just too tempting not to buy. This sometimes came at the cost of not buying a game, but this was often a game I wasn´t certain about.

Dlc is important? That depends, I mean new multiplayer maps can keep multiplayer a bit longer interesting but I don´t think it´s that important. Maybe when it comes to connectivity, in case the new maps are in the rotation with the old maps, but apart from that it´s not really that important. Dlc becomes important when it adds new stories and or adventures tied to the main story, which means you will be missing out on some important and maybe even fun parts.

So how do you know what you should buy? Well you don´t, but it does help to check out dlc and you can sometimes do it even before the game comes out. For example Assassin´s Creed Unity gave you a peek into what the dlc is going to be, of course they don´t tell you everything but it gives you an idea what you can expect. That´s nice because that way you can see if you want to invest in that or not. Unfortunately not everyone is that open about dlc and in games like CoD it´s quite common to remain silent about what you can expect until you´re close to the release date. It´s not like people don´t figure it out before that date but still it would be nice if developers would be more open about it, that gives people a better idea what to buy and where to spend their money on. Because there are a lot of nice games coming out and you can´t buy it all!
