What happened to Final Fantasy games?
Have you played some of the older Final Fantasy games? Maybe you were there at the start with the Nintendo Final Fantasy games or you stepped in when Playstation took over, either way you probably have some history with Final Fantasy and probably look a bit strange at the last ten years of Final Fantasy. Well maybe that´s just me, but I can´t imagine that everyone is ok with these games, at least not the last couple of Final Fantasy games.
What happened to Final Fantasy? I don´t know, if I have to be honest. I started with Final Fantasy VIII and then quickly played Final Fantasy VII as well, I love both games and they´re a lot of fun. Final Fantasy IX was a step back for me, I didn´t enjoy playing that game that much but Final Fantasy X was once more a great game! It gave me hope for the future but somehow things only went downhill after that. Final Fantasy XI (the mmorpg) wasn´t something I was interested in, maybe some people enjoyed that but I definitely didn´t. Final Fantasy X-2 was a nice idea but a bit too much girl power for my taste. The worst is Final Fantasy XII, in this game I didn´t detect one joke and one moment that made it worth going through it for hours and hours. Final Fantasy XIII was a step in the right direction but once more it was weird, sure it´s Final Fantasy but it just gets so weird that I start to lose interest in playing. Not a good thing when you play a game that will take you a lot of hours to beat! Final Fantasy XIV is also the type of mmorpg that some will like and others will never play, especially when it´s only available on PC and Playstation 3!
So what does that mean for the latest Final Fantasy games? I don´t know, I honestly don´t know what this means. I still hope that Final Fantasy XV will be a great game, I really hope that but I do realize that Final Fantasy hasn´t been the same for quite some time. But what about the other Final Fantasy game? Ah yes, Final Fantasy Type-0. I get the feeling this is a spin-off that is just something to keep people satisfied until Final Fantasy XV comes out, you also get the demo for Final Fantasy XV if you pre-order Final Fantasy Type-0. It could be fun but I don´t recognize that as a real Final Fantasy game, but for that matter I haven´t seen that many ´real´ Final Fantasy games in the last decade. It could be fun to play as one of the students and just hack and slash through the game, but I doubt that I´ll buy it.
What about Final Fantasy XV? It looks a bit strange to me right now, I mean with the guys driving around in their car and seeing these huge dinosaurs (well they´re big creatures at least). I don´t know what to expect from that and that could be a good thing, I just hope it will make more sense than the last couple of Final Fantasy games and that we finally get something worth spending a lot of hours in, because there is nothing worse than to realize halfway in a game that you´re not actually motivated to keep playing. Maybe I sound a bit harsh to you but this is how it feels to me. Hopefully Final Fantasy XV will be a lot of fun, I really hope so...
