Games or movies shouldn´t be banned just like that?
After all the commotion around the movie the Interview it does raise the question if it´s ok for a country to make threats and that the movie gets cancelled because of that, I mean how do you feel about that? Is that ok? What about games? Should games be banned just because of what some people think? Let´s see if we can find some answers!
Surprise surprise not everyone has the same opinion and not everyone likes the same stuff, which is perfectly fine because if that was reality then the world would be a boring place! The problem is when people can´t accept that some people like other things and then have to make it their mission to ruin that for others just because it bothers them. This isn´t different in the political schemes, making fun of the ruler of a country is apparently wrong and so there are threats and that leads to a movie being cancelled. Is it really that bad? I mean it´s just for fun and nobody gets hurt (at least not physically), so why make a big deal out of it?
It´s not the first time that world leaders or that a ruler of a country is being ridiculed, a lot of others had the misfortune of that honour before. For example Saddam Hoessein in Hot Shots Part Deux, Kim Jong-il in Team America World Police and Adolf Hitler in the great dictator. You´d be surprised that Adolf Hitler actually took that the best as he laughed at that the performance of Charlie Chaplin. So why all the commotion now? A movie is just a movie, there is nothing going on here that makes it more than that. But I guess when you´re the ruler of a country you have more problems than people realize and you don´t need a bunch of assholes from the West to make fun of you. Still this does show that some people just can´t take a joke and prove once more that democracy is more an idea than an actual fact in the world.
So what about games? It´s not that different with games, just look at GTA V being banned in Australia. Sure it´s a game with a lot of violence in it but does that make people that play the game evil? I´m not blind to the arguments, I mean being able to have sex with a prostitute and then brutally kill her to get your money back is of course quite extreme. But I don´t think GTA V motivates people to actually do that, when people do awful things like that they do that because they want to do that and didn´t get that idea from a game. Also the game doesn´t reward you for being bad, if you do bad things you´ll get the cops after you and they´re very persistent in GTA V! The game doesn´t teach you that you get away with bad things and even if you could get away with it then it´s still a game, something you do for fun and eventhough you´re being awful in a game that doesn´t make you a terrible person in real life.
I think a lot of people don´t realize that gamers aren´t that stupid, most of them know the difference between what´s right and what´s wrong. What happens in the game is fantasy and it´s just for fun. That doesn´t mean that kids should play those type of games, but this is the responsibility of the parents and also shops to keep kids from playing those games. We shouldn´t all suffer because some assholes can´t be bothered to check on their kids, but I guess that´s the type of world we live in. Often some people decide what´s best for the rest of us, which seems like a good idea but is of course a load of bollocks when you think about it. Do you want the government to tell you what you can watch or play? Probably not, especially when you´re an adult then you want to make your own choices in life. So instead of treating people like babies we should be able to decide what we want to watch or play!
