Sinful Sunday: Regret

At the end of the year it´s a good time to look back at what you´ve been doing in that year, all the good things and all the bad things. For gamers it also means looking back at all the games you bought and with that there is sometimes also regret. Games you wish you never bought and played, but also games you wish you had bought or played.

When you don´t have a lot of money it´s always lame when you buy a game that sucks or that you can finish in a day or two. Then you really have to wonder if that was worth it. It´s cool if the game is fun enough to play again, for example to get a different ending or to make different choices when you´re offered to choose between different options. Unfortunately not every game offers you this choice and that makes certain games only playable for the achievements/trophies, at least if that´s worth it.

I wonder how many people have regret about the games they bought. Watchdogs is a game that had a lot of hype around it but then after people played it people didn´t like it that much, so I´m not surprised that there are a lot of people out there that regret buying that game. I think Assassin´s Creed Unity players might have the same feeling because that game had (and maybe still has) a lot of issues! So it´s no surprise that there is regret out there, for some more than for others.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? There is always a risk when you buy a game that it´s going to suck or at least won´t be as much fun as you first thought it would be. But at least you can be a bit more certain if you gather a lot of information about games and if possible play the demo or check out as many gameplay trailers to get an idea if this game is something for you. It´s difficult though, sometimes developers show you nice stuff in a game and then the final product isn´t that nice. That type of deception is nothing new but of course it sucks and unfortunately there isn´t much that can be done about that. But if you prefer to play it safe then you should wait a moment before you buy a new game, if the responses are positive then you can always buy the game later and if not then you spared yourself buying a piece of shit game.

I don´t think you can completely avoid bad games, sooner or later you´ll end up buying one and that sucks. But what is life without a bit of regret? It might suck at the time but it´s a good learning process that will hopefully prevent you from making the same mistake any time soon. At least I certainly hope so for your sake!
