Why do you play games?
It seems a simple question, but you get a lot of different answers on this questions. You might expect people to play just for fun, but you´d be wrong! In fact a lot of people have more than one reason to play games, which makes sense because gaming is much more than just a hobby to some people. I bet you wouldn´t guess that some of the reasons aren´t that innocent, because gaming can be an addictive hobby and sometimes get people in trouble. But it´s not all bad, for some people gaming is a way to escape the real world and find some peace in a virtual world. I´m going to take a closer look to some of these reasons and hopefully find a good reason to play games!
I think a lot of people play games for fun and in my opinion this is the best reason to play games! Who cares about anything else when you and your friends are just having a good time, isn´t that the way you want to play games? Well fun doesn´t mean the same thing to everyone, eventhough a lot of people consider fun to have a good time by yourself and/or with others there are also people that have fun making the lives of others miserable. Even in games this happens more than you think, these trolls aren´t always that charming as the ones you see on youtube and will often annoy the crap out of you. But to be fair, they´re having fun in a game but it comes at the expense of others.
Thanks to youtube a lot of people also play games for fame and fortune, which might sound silly but there are several people that have made some money thanks to games. Not just by entering a championship and win, but also by uploading videos and getting a lot of views. It seems simple but only a few seem to be truly succesful and it sometimes sucks the fun out of gaming when things become stressful.
I´ve also heard stories from girls that play games with their boyfriend because he´s addicted to gaming, so the only way for them to spend time with their guy is to play games as well. Maybe you wouldn´t do that but some people don´t give up on someone just like that and if that´s the only way to spend time together then it´s a small price to pay. But I must admit that I don´t see a long time relationship in those type of relationships! Talking about addiction, this is a negative reason to play games and it can be quite harmful to you. Not just physical, but it can also mess up your school results or it can even get you fired if you spend too much time on games. Games are fun but you should know when to quit!
Of course there are several more reasons why people play games, but I think this kind of gives you an idea why people play games. Maybe not always for the reason(s) you thought, but then again we´re all different and having our own reason to play games just seems logic to me. Whatever your reason is, I just hope you have a good time!
