Looking back at.....Super Mario World!

Now this is a real blast from my past! I don´t even remember when I last played this game on the SNES. It was in a way quite similar to the Super Mario Bros game but this one was also quite different, not just because of the setting in dinosaur land but also because of our favourite green dinosaur Yoshi! I can hardly imagine anyone that played this game and didn´t like Yoshi, this happy and friendly dinosaur is a great help to Mario. This is one of those games that I played for days and even after beating this game I kept playing it for a long time. It´s just so much fun and there is so much to do!

Another change in this game was meeting the family of Bowser, which meant a lot of boss fights against his brats. These weren´t difficult fights but sometimes they could fuck you up if you made a mistake. It´s actually a lot of fun to conquer parts of dinosaur land back and feel like you´re doing something good, instead of just going automaticly from one level to another. You already had this game mechanic in Super Mario Bros 3, but I think in Super Mario World it looked just awesome! Of course once again thanks to Yoshi! As a kid I was a big fan of dinosaurs and it was great to see these dinosaurs pop up in games as well, I think Yoshi is the type of dinosaur almost every kid would want to have.

Super Mario World was the first Mario game for the SNES and it brought Mario and the SNES a lot of gamers that love these type of games. The easy to learn gameplay makes this perfect for kids but also a lot of fun for adults, you don´t have to be an expert to play Mario games and I doubt you´ll ever be considered as being too old to play one either. I learned to become a pretty good platform gamer thanks to the Mario games, of course I´m rusty now after playing so many other types of games but I´ll never forget how I first learned the fine handling of a controller in these games. Eventhough the controllers back then aren´t really something you´d consider as fine these days.

If you´ve never played a Mario game, I can hardly believe that but it´s possible, then this is a great game to get started with! It´s fun and yet certain levels might be a challenge to some gamers, parents don´t have to worry about violence or bad language because Mario games aren´t really the type of games parents have to worry about. It´s fun for the whole family and even if you prefer to play games by yourself then this is still a great game to play!
