Looking back at.....Super Smash Brothers (N64)

Fighting games usually bring out the worst in me, I prefer not to play them and when I do I usually stick to some easy stuff instead of challenging myself against the most difficult opponents! But Super Smash Brothers on the N64 changed that, because it´s an easy game where you beat the crap out of eachother and yet it´s still pretty friendly. There are no fatalities or whatever type of finishing move, it´s just beating other characters off the screen. Which seems simple but it can be quite difficult against some people. It´s fun that you can play it with multiple players at once on one screen, that means more fun and no small screen bullshit!

My favourite character is Link, thanks to the legend of Zelda: the ocarina of time, and I would usually play as this character. But Captain Falcon was also a favourite of mine, Falcon punch! It´s fun to play a game that´s actually not that difficult to play because you don´t need to memorize some ridiculous combo or unbeatable move. In this game you can just pick a character and try to beat him or her with some simple attacks. Of course some characters are better than others, but I don´t think that would keep many people from trying other characters.

The levels are also nice, eventhough it´s a 2D background you do see the beauty of some levels and recognize some of the levels that are the home of some of characters in the game. This means playing in an environment with your favourite character in a place you would call home, that´s pretty cool and something I would´ve never thought to be possible as a kid. Sure you had that Mario vs Luigi battle mode in Super Mario Bros 3 but this was of course so much bigger and more fun!

Every new Nintendo console has a new version of Super Smash brothers, which is pretty nice and also pretty cool! But I must admit that the charm of the first game is still the best for me, the suprise of something like that to be possible and to have so much fun in a fighting game was something I couldn´t imagine. Even when you suck at fighting games you can still have a lot of fun with this game, because you don´t have to be good at fighting games to enjoy playing this game. This makes Super Smash Brothers a lot of fun to play for people that are familiar with fighting games and for people who are unfamiliar with fighting games. Also playing as your favourite character and then beating up other character from your childhood is a big bonus!
