Beating a game and then?
It´s not that difficult to beat a game, of course there are some exceptions where a game is difficult to beat, and then you have to decide if you want to continue playing that game or move on to something else. It seems like a simple decision but sometimes it´s difficult when you have a lot of games you want to play but not enough time to play them all!
To complete or not to complete? Some gamers want to complete games, which means getting all the achievements/trophies in one game. But for some games that means multiple playthroughs, something that will take quite some time and then you have to consider if it´s worth it. I must admit that I prefer to complete a game or at least finish it, if the remaining achievements are still within my grasp then I don´t mind going for that but I wouldn´t want to go through the same game several times just to get more achievements. Is it still playing for fun or do you call it then playing for achievements/trophies? The same counts for an achievement/trophy that takes too much time to get, sure you can spend days or even weeks on getting that but is that really worth it? Some would say yes, but I´m quite certain that a lot also think it´s just a waste of time!
Some people play the same game multiple times because of different endings, which is something I would probably do as well. Silent Hill 2 is a game I finished multiple times and that was because I wanted to get all endings, which seems silly but if you like a game and still have fun playing it then I don´t think it really matters if you keep playing the same game! I guess the same can be said about getting achievements/trophies, but I find that a bit more frustrating and thus less fun.
Then there are also people that go for a speed run, which means trying to finish a game as quickly as possible. I think you must play a game several times before you can make a serious attempt, because you´ll have to know the game pretty well and know exactly what to do before you can even start with a speed run. I don´t really like a speed run and I´ve never done that myself, I want to enjoy a game and not rush through it. But I can see how this is something that keeps a game longer alive for some people and I guess it´s nice to hold the record for beating it with the fastest time.
It doesn´t really matter what you do after you beat a game, but it´s nice to know that there is still a future for your game when you finish it. So don´t throw that game away just yet and maybe you find some time to play it again sometime!
