Looking back at.....Mario Kart: Double Dash!
This isn´t the first Mario kart game and yet it´s probably my favourite that I´ve played, because I like how you have two people in a kart instead of just one. Which means some crazy switching of character and create some nasty combos for your opponents. Of course there are new versions of Mario kart and those look probably better but that doesn´t take away the fun I´ve had with this game!
In Mario Kart: Double Dash you have two people in your kart instead of one, something they did for the first time in the Mario kart games. You can select both characters so you can make some interesting pairs, but depending on your character you´ll often have to stick to a certain type of kart. For example Bowser is heavy and doesn´t fit in the small and medium size karts, which means he can only sit in the large karts. But you still have several karts to choose from and the racing levels are still just as crazy as you remember them! The power ups are also wacky but sometimes quite effective, especially if you use them correctly! So eventhough you now have two people in your kart, nothing important has really changed and that´s actually a good thing. Because why change something that is already good?
I don´t think everyone likes having two people in their kart but for me it was a nice suprise when I heard about it, because this means twice the fun in just one kart. Also if you pick up one item with one character you can switch to the other character and he or she can also get an item. That way you can have a nice suprise for anyone that gets in your way! The competition is once again based on fun and not so much on frustration. This is one of the few race games I actually enjoy to play, because a lot of race games with ´real´ cars are often frustrating to say the least. In Double Dash it´s just fun and that´s a good reason to play this game!
One of the most fun things about the Mario kart games is the balloon battle, this is where you have three balloon attached to your kart and other players have to hit you with shields or other items to make you lose balloons. The last player that still has balloon on his or her kart wins, it seems simple but the competition can be quite extreme in this mode! I always enjoyed playing this with friends, eventhough during the match the friendship would endure some serious flack! But that´s ok, a bit of friendly rivalry is fine with me. Even people who aren´t good at playing games can have a great time with games like Double Dash, it´s fun and easy to learn so almost everyone can enjoy playing it. So feel free to give it a try if you haven´t done so already!
