What really matters

These days all I see is people comparing graphics from the same game on different consoles, otherwise they´ll pick another game and still compare graphics to show which console is better. Have you ever seen so much whiny bullshit? No? Then you´ve probably never read one of my I hate campers rants! Anyway this is such a fucking waste of time, oh the graphics on this console look a little bit better on that console. Big fucking deal! Nobody really cares, as if in a firefight you´re going to check how good the grass in the background moves along with the wind.

Of course you´re going to notice if a game looks better with a new console, usually the first games try to prove this the hardest and often fail with that. Because it takes some time for developers to bring out the maximum what a new console has to offer. So don´t expect the best games in the first year for a new console. Just play what you want to play and hopefully you have a good time playing them. There is Always a chance that some games will suck and have bad graphics, that´s unfortunate but it happens. But less good graphics don´t guarantee anything. Silent Hill had bad graphics and yet it was one of the best games I played on the Playstation.

So what really matters then? I think this is not always the same for everyone, but I do think that a lot of people value a good story in a game. Sure mindless slaughter can be fun but that only works for a limited time, that gets boring over time and it´s not something you want to go through from the beginning multiple times. But when I look at games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins then I know that many people played that game from the beginning to the end multiple times. But it´s also important to have smooth gameplay, good camera angles and an easy save system. It sucks when saving doesn´t work, yes I´m looking at you GTA Online!

Sure some games can look very pretty, but that´s not a guarantee on a great game. So maybe people should stop being so obsessed with how good the graphics are and just look at the things that really matter. Which means what makes it fun for you to play it. That´s something only you can decide and I doubt that graphics are your number one reason why you buy a game and why you enjoy a game. Of course it´s nice when a game looks pretty, but seriously it doesn´t mean a thing if that´s all that it is. One console has better graphics than the other? Congratulations, now let´s get back to what really matters and that´s how much fun is it to play that game!
