Games that are forbidden (for some people)
I don´t think I´ve ever had the problem of wanting to play a game but it was forbidden in my country, I guess that´s the benefit of living in a country that doesn´t really give a shit. Oh sure sometimes people will bring up the subject of taking action against games but it´s just something politicians say to get more votes. To be honest I don´t think anyone really gives a shit what kids play, as long a they don´t cause trouble most people are fine with it. Or are there games that are so terrible that they should be forbidden?
I think one of the games that caused a lot of trouble is Manhunt, the game was supposedly so brutal that a lot of countries banned it. I don´t know if that means that people in those countries could never play it or if they found other ways to play it. It kind of makes me wonder why they do it, because violence is everywhere and a game doesn´t make someone more violent then he or she already is. If someone thinks that a kid won´t turn violent just because you keep shoving my little pony through his face then you might be in for a suprise that this kid will still turn out violent, too much good will kill you! But seriously this whole protecting our kids thing is stupid, if you´re really concerned about the kids then just make certain that the violent games (often 18+ games) are only played by people that are mature. But since that isn´t a perfect way of stopping kids from getting these violent games and to ruin the fun of everyone by making certain no one can play those games is also quite stupid I´d say you should just stick to what you know. Whenever a politician starts putting his (or her, I guess female politicians aren´t saints either) nose where it doesn´t belong bad things happen, I think a certain president probably knows what I´m talking about!
So it´s only the very violent games that get banned? Unfortunately for some countries that´s not the case. I think Australia is one of those countries that has a very low tolerance for anything that isn´t considered as acceptable. Which means games like Saints Row IV are also easily banned, just for having a weapon in the game called the penetrator. If there´s one thing you can say about the Saints Row games is that they´re not something you should take seriously, so why people would want to be assholes about that games still suprises me. I guess that´s what you get if you let people that don´t know shit about games decide what people can play in that country and what not. Another thing that is highly unacceptable in some countries is sex, something most of us adults are familiar with is something that is considered as very evil. I´m not saying expose kids to sex but they´re going to find out sooner or later, so maybe in a fun way as in a game is better than seeing some hardcore porn movie when they´re alone in their room. Besides most games are very careful with sex in games, it´s not like you see everything. Often the slightest mention of nude or sex is enough to make people scream bloody murder, I think in the USA this is probably a huge deal. Which is strange because violence is more accepted in games than sex, it makes you wonder what kind of effect that has on kids...
