Are you afraid of a gamer girl?
It seems silly really, to be afraid of a girl that plays games but I´ve noticed that some guys actually have difficulties with admitting defeat. But why? Why would someone be afraid to lose of a girl? Is this some remnant of being a boy? I know that as a boy girls were lame, well some still are but that will be our secret, and it was much more fun to hang around with your friends than with girls. Maybe sometimes this feeling of boys only clubs seem to dominate in some peoples heads. Which brings you to something else, is gaming just for guys or are girls also welcome?
Of course most guys would say that they wouln´t mind playing against girls, some might even welcome it. But when you´re being humilated by another player that happens to be a girl, does that wound your pride? Would you quickly rage quit the game just to avoid being defeated by a girl? It seems childish to behave like that and yet it´s not unthinkable. Actually I´ve seen it happen a couple of times myself, where guys would leave when someone with a female gamertag was about to defeat someone. Of course people with a female gamertag don´t always have to be women but for the sake of making a point I´ll assume that it is. I mean why would a guy have a female gamertag? Oh wait don´t answer that, I don´t think I even want to know.
Let´s try to make it a bit less gender specific, how about why people leave a game to avoid defeat? Often these people are sad enough to not being able to handle a simple truth, they were beaten. This doesn´t even have to be their fault, sometimes the team they´re in sucks or the others were just better at the game. So why leave the game before the end of the match? Is it so horrible to be defeated? Are some people so consumed with their perfect winning streak or k/d rating? People that rage quit for these pathetic reasons are people you don´t want to play with, because they´re sad and a complete waste of time. You want people that have fun and do their best, so even when you lose then you can at least say that you did what you could and so did you team. It´s not the end of the world when you lose, I´d say it´s a good lesson for the next match that might help you win that one.
So getting back to the fear of losing to a girl, why does that seem to be such an issue for some people? I guess it´s easy to say that they don´t do it because the other player is a girl, they just leave because they can´t handle defeat. That might actually be true, but what about hate messages afterwards that indicate that they would never lose to a girl and that she should stop playing games? To be honest I don´t think that happens a lot though, I don´t think that the majority of gamers really cares what gender the other players are. But unfortunately there is a small group that is childish and immature about these things, for them it´s a lot of fun to taunt and bully female gamers. Up to the point that some girls actually change their avatar and gamertag into a male one, just to stop unwanted attention. It´s sad really that this happens to some people, especially that people like this never dare to stay in a match when they are on the brink of defeat. I do suspect that most people who behave like this aren´t mature, some by age and others just never became an adult at all. Playing a game means that you can lose, even to a girl and that´s nothing to be ashamed for. If a girl kicks your ass in a game then that´s good for her, learn from your mistakes and maybe you can kick her ass next time.
