The ultimate game of 2013!

I really like playing games and picking a favourite isn´t always easy, but then again there are also years that there were just a lot of bad games and then it becomes easier. I think 2013 was a good year for games, at least I played a lot of them and enjoyed a lot of those games. I must admit that there were some that disappointed or they´re just not what I expected. Still I don´t think that there was one game that I played that I considered as a total waste of time. Of course that´s a bit harsh to say anyway, but sometimes there are games that are just not that much fun and I can´t help but see that as a waste of money. But without further delay let´s see what 2013 brought us!

Only popular games are good? I guess when you have a giant as GTA V in the year then you might think that other games don´t stand a chance, but actually I think that this really depends on what you like. Besides when I look in a random lobby in GTA Online then I can´t say that I´m really impressed with the type of people I meet there, I´m not saying it´s all bad but usually you´re dealing with idiots. You know the type that wants to kill, be annoying and then kill some more! This actually worries me a bit about the future generation but I guess that´s a topic for another time. I must admit that I didn´t played a lot of games in 2013 and there might be several that I missed that might be a lot of fun. But thinking about the revival of a classic game that I loved, Ducktales, then I´m quite certain that I don´t need to play everything to have an opinion about it. Especially since I played the original Ducktales game, which is a lot of fun! I also love games that come as a suprise, that you knew very little about and then suddenly when you try the game out it´s a complete suprise how much fun it is. I think the Wolf among us is a good example of that for me. But I also discovered the Walking Dead game, I mean the one with Lee and Clementine. I know it´s not a game of 2013 but I did like it enough to try Season 2 of the Walking Dead game. The two Playstation 3 exclusives, the last of us and beyond two souls, are also a lot of fun. I really enjoyed playing both stories and there were definately moments that I was sitting there with a feeling that I wished I could do more, do you ever have that feeling when you play a game? I guess that´s a good sign and definately interesting to discover in a game, because it brings you almost to a whole new level of gaming.

So it´s all good? No I didn´t like all the games, some games felt like there was something missing or I just didn´t enjoy myself long enough in the games to have a very positive opinion about them. For example Tombraider was a lot of fun, but then you put a multiplayer in it that has in my opinion a bit less quality than the single player. Which is a shame because I think they had something there, it´s just a shame that the multiplayer died out too quickly to actually have enough experience to level up further than the first twenty levels. I think the same can be said about Batman Arkham Origins, I don´t like that there is a multiplayer and the multiplayer isn´t much fun in my opinion. I want to play as Batman and not as a douchebag that tries to kill him. Sure it´s an interesting idea but really I don´t want that. Also the main game felt like it was made with someone pointing a gun at the heads of the developers. Not that I´m saying that it´s bad, but certain parts in the story seem rushed and that kind of messes with the experience in my opinion. Once again I like the idea of Batman Arkham Origins, it just feels a bit less Batman than the first two games (Arkham Asylum and Arkham City). Assassin´s Creed IV was also a good game but I have to admit that parts of the story really bothered me, I just didn´t like Edward Kenway that much and I must admit that I hoped things would go a bit different. I won´t spoil the ending or anything like that but I thought it would be a bit more like Assassin´s Creed III. Maybe that´s my problem, that I took an expectation with me when I started playing the game or maybe I just rushed too quickly through the game that I didn´t really let the story sink into me. Either way it´s a fun game, but still I´m missing the good feeling from the other games.

So what is the best game of 2013? I think it´s safe to say that it´s not a game that you might expect, maybe some of you have never played it or even heard of it. So I´ll try to explain as well as I can why I like this game the most. My favourite for 2013 is the Wolf among us. So for those of you that played it or at least know about it then you know that there is only one part of five parts out, but still that one part already left a big impression on me. I was so suprised by how interesting this game is and how much fun it is to play games like that. I guess I was playing a lot of first person shooters so it was a nice change. Also I had a lot of fun playing as Bigby Wolf (the main character in the Wolf among us), he´s really an interesting character and the more I play the more I want to know! Also the other characters seem interesting, some of them you kind of recognize but others are quite unique. I like this mix between Sin City and Watchmen, at least that´s how the game feels to me. I loved those movies and I really like the style in the game. Sure it´s not an action packed game or very emotional journey. But there are moments of action and moments of sadness and even shocking moments! It´s a story that grabs you by the throat if you don´t expect it and it´s such a good story! I guess I could tell you all about it but really you need to play this yourself! You might not agree with my opinion but that´s ok, we all have our own favourite and I hope you enjoy the games that you played. I think that´s the most important part!
