Looking back at...Bully!
I can´t help but talk about games I played in the past and I do feel that I don´t always give them the attention they deserve, so that´s why I´m starting with this looking back writing. Even if some of these games are ´old´ I still think it might be interesting to write about it. Not just to say what I like about it but also talk about memories or things I hope to see in future games.
The first time I bought Bully it was on the Playstation 2, I loved the idea of that game from the first moment I heard about it. I wasn´t that familiar with Rockstar at the moment, Sure I had played some GTA games but it didn´t really made me excited about the game just because Rockstar made it. It was just the idea to be on a school and do some crazy things that you wish you did when you went to school or maybe when you still go to school. It was like a freedom to do things in a place where you can´t do everything you´d like to do. But even things that would be allowed but you´re just too nervous or scared to do. Like kissing the hottest girl of the school or kicking the toughest guy at school in the nuts. I really was an annoying prick in Bully, the moment someone talked shit against me I´d start a fight, I would constantly give wedgies and I´d be playing Romeo with almost every girl. Of course this is very far from how I really was at school, but that´s ok because games can let you do things different without really facing the consequences of that!
Super student or super lazy? When I first started to play Bully I wanted to do my best, try to get good grades and still finish all the missions. Of course that was a little bit too much at first so I started to give priority to missions, of course I´d have adults chasing me trying to get me back in class. That would sometimes lead to some hilarious chases. Even if I got cought I was still laughing at it, because it´s just so silly. But going to class wasn´t boring, the mini games are actually a lot of fun and it made sitting there a lot less annoying. Sometimes I was even disappointed that the class was already finished, because I was still in the middle of the mini game. Also the different times of the school year are so much fun, as every season brings new interesting details to the school and the village next to the school. For example I really like the Halloween mission and it´s fun to be dressed up in your costume. But then when it´s X-mass and you wear the sweater your mother sent you then you might want to change clothes. There is so much to do and so much you can explore in a game that is not really that big if you compare it to GTA IV or V. Still there isn´t any reason to be bored, because with all the activities and things you can do there is hardly any time to relax!
Up to this day I sometimes still play with friends the multiplayer, which means in splitscreen you can choose to do several mini games and then see who´s better. This often means quick thinking and also some crafty skills. It´s so simple and yet challenging enough when people are a bit familiar with how it works. Even some of my friends who hardly play games can be fierce rivals in that game. I think Bully is the best game Rockstar has ever made and yes that means better than GTA V! So I really hope they´ll make another game like Bully or maybe another developer can make a game like Bully. Because games like Bully are rare and they´re so much fun to play. It´s really a shame that the brilliance of Bully wasn´t discovered by the majority of gamers, but that also makes the game a bit more special to me. The final question I have for you is, did you kiss any guys for that strange achievement? If you do then you´re very brave to have that in your achievement list!
