Camping vs patrolling
I think most of you know what camping is, but do you know what patrolling is? Patrolling means that you stay in the same area of the map and move around in a pattern to check all entries to that area. In a way you patrol that area without ever really leaving it. Some might call this camping but in my opinion camping is staying in one spot without ever really moving at all. That doesn´t mean that people that use the patrol strategy won´t get any hate. But that´s nothing new, if you have succes in a game for whatever reason then other players might not always be that kind to you.
As a new player in fps games, what do you recommend? I think camping is the easy way to play games, it takes very little skill and it´s often a good way to rank up some kills. But remember that this isn´t accepted by other players and some will go out of their way to bring you down. Of course an experienced camper will take full benefit from that. Sometimes you move a little bit to constantly suprise your attacker or if you have a faster trigger finger then you might beat your opponent every time. A lot of people use the camping strategy, their motivations aren´t always the same but it usually comes down to getting kills without dying too much. Which is understandable, but once again you´ll get a lot of hate for doing this. Camping is a bit less frustrating, because people can still suprise you, because if they wait in ambush they can get you off guard. But some might also sneak behind you when you run past them around a corner. So it might not be as safe as camping but it will still get you kills if you stay alert. Also it might be smart to turn around every now and then, otherwise you might feel a knife in your back. Patrolling is a bit more risky, but it by far not as boring as camping. Unless you have to trouble with sitting still and staring at one point for a minute or two. I guess a more experienced camper knows where to sit and get more action without failing. But as a new player you really want to take it easy, don´t rush into battle because they´ll tear you to shreds! Stick to areas you know and don´t run into an open area without some investigation from a distance.
Patrolling sounds a lot like camping, what is really so different? Well one of the biggest differences is that patrolling means that you keep moving, you don´t sit still in a corner or stay by a window to check for anyone passing by. Camping is really sitting still and let others come to you, while patrolling is you investigating and protecting an area. Especially when it´s a map that has some big open areas and you don´t have a weapon that is suited for that, for example a smg or a shotgun, then it´s a good idea to stay in an area that has some more cover. Of course in these areas you´ll also find campers, so don´t think that a patroller can´t come across a camper. Some campers might move around a little bit, for example when they guard to entry points. That´s a thin line between a camper and a patroller, but when there is very little movement then I´d say you´re still in the camper zone. When you patrol you cover more than just five meters of space! Depending on the area you guard it´s sometimes smart to have someone that helps you patrol, because guarding a big area isn´t easy on your own. Don´t be suprised if other players will hang around you if you have succes in an area, don´t be mad if they want to profit of your succes and realize that the more of your team hang around in one area the more of the enemy team will come to you. Campers can be rivals of eachother, while patrollers can actually work well together. But sometimes campers also watch eachothers backs, so it´s not like that´s not something you can do with a friend. But I think it´s more fun to patrol, it keeps you busy and at the same time you give the opponents a chance to take you down. That seems a bit more fair than sitting in a corner and shooting the shit out of anyone that pops around the corner!
