This game is wrong!

Have you ever played a game based on historical events or a game based on a movie? Even when you look at games based on comics or books can be different than what was written in the comics and books. Sometimes developers like to go their own way with the story, but this makes certain fans angry because they think the game is ruined because of these decisions. But does it really matter?

I like history and games that take place in an interesting part of history are games I´m interested in. It really sucks when they made an awful game based on a part of history that could be so much fun to play. I´m not saying that it ruins everything for me, but I do think that it´s a complete waste of time. Why play a game that is just wrong? Well sometimes I have to admit that nonsense can be fun, it doesn´t always have to be exactly as it was written in history or on anything else. Sometimes you can be creative and make something original based on something that already existed. I think the Assassin´s Creed games do a good job with that, because they often take moments out of history and then put their fiction story in the middle of it. I don´t think it damages anything and actually makes you think about certain things. Of course it is fiction and just pure entertainment, but it´s nice to have something going on in the background of historical events. Besides you can always go for a what if scenario!

So everything is permitted? No not everything, there are right tied to a movie or book and to twist historical events too much you might make a lot of people angry. But for me as a gamer I´m more interested in the value of that. When I look at the dlc for Assassin´s Creed III then I must say that I´m not that interested in the what if story of King George, because that´s just nonsense to me that I´m not interested in. Sure it´s intersting to follow a path if something happened, but really sometimes it really just feels as something that fills the pockets of developers and not to actually give you entertainment. I know some people will strongly disagree and that´s perfectly fine, because we all have our own opinion about such things. I just like it when they stay close to historical facts, you can add things but if you completely change the way things went then it kind of feels wrong to me. Why don´t you just make your own story in a fictional world that isn´t based on real people?

Is good nonsense worth buying? Well that really depends what you consider to be nonsense and if it bothers you, because if you like things to be as close to the truth then you might want to evade everything connected to fiction. That means there aren´t many games you can play for that matter, so I´d say most gamers don´t have a problem with some good nonsense. I mean as long as it´s fun to play then who really cares? I must admit that sometimes I´m a bit annoyed about certain things, like the Amalia character in Kessen III. A Dutch woman that goes to Japan to help the rebellion there, it seems a bit fantasy based but I guess it´s not terrible. I´m actually quite interested in those historical events and than to see this blonde woman in a ridiculous outfit wandering around with a fake Dutch accent is just a slap in the face. I know that games aren´t the best source for how something really went, but I do prefer to see a little bit of accuracy in story details. That way it´s not just fun to play but you also learn something at the same time!
