No such thing as bad luck?
It´s Friday the 13th, that usually means the worst day you can think of for anyone who believes that it brings bad luck. Did you know that this idea comes from when the Templars got rounded up hundreds of years ago and that their leader was burned to death on that specific date? So you can imagine that it´s not exactly a day without something tied to it, but then again it could be just another day like any other day. Or is there something weird going on with Friday the 13th?
As a gamer you might not always think of luck, I think most gamers believe in skill and that makes sense in a way. But to be honest I do believe in luck, I think that luck can actually determine succes in a game. Sure skill will definately help but sometimes all you need is a little bit of luck to make it through something difficult, it can be the difference between succeeding and failing. I´ve had so many times that I made it past a difficult moment in the game and I had no idea how I did it, it was just pure luck. The happens to me in multiplayer, I just get lucky sometimes. Even against people who are far better than me, sometimes you just get lucky. So for me it´s not the question if luck exists, it´s more how lucky will I get when I play games.
So does Friday the 13th affect gamers? I must admit that this is mostly in your head when it does affect you, because I refuse to believe that a specific date can mess with you. That´s mostly in your head and thus it can affect your performance. The best thing to do is not to think of it, just play games as you normally would and hopefully it won´t affect your gaming performance. But maybe instead of getting lucky now you might get a little bit less lucky, who really knows? The important thing is that you don´t let it control you, no matter how strongly you believe in things like luck and bad luck. If you let it control you then you´re not in control of what you do, which makes succes that much harder in everything you do. So playing a game and constantly thinking of bad luck that might happen won´t really help you, instead try to focus on what´s right in front of you. As much as I would encourage people to think, I would certainly not encourage people to think too much about certain things. Especially not negative things, because no good comes from that!
If you do feel like you need some extra luck then you can always try something that might influence that, for example a lucky charm or do something that makes you feel better about yourself. Whatever positive energy you can get won´t harm you, so it´s never a bad idea to have that with you. But if you feel like Friday the 13th will only bring you bad luck then maybe it´s a good idea to do something else, for example watch a movie or spend time with your friends. Sometimes it´s better to be safe than sorry!
