YouTube adventures -85- Asking for likes is bad?
In a lot of videos on YouTube you hear someone asking for a like and to subscribe at the beginning or the end of the video. At first this almost made me want to click away instantly, I mean why start with that and why bother people with that? If someone likes your video they will most likely like it and if they like enough of their videos they will subscribe as well. But in reality it doesn't always work that well, how many times have you seen a video and forgot to like it when you actually enjoyed watching it? I'm pretty certain that it has happened to everyone at least once, so...
Asking for a like isn't a bad thing?
I've never asked for a like myself nor have I ever asked people to subscribe, maybe this seems like I'm being modest but in all honesty I don't expect people to like my video or want to subscribe. Maybe I'm just being negative about myself but the truth is that I make low quality videos and at the moment I can't even make any videos at all. So I wouldn't ask for a like or subscribe when this is what you get with that. But it's also not in my nature to ask for these things. I see it more as earning a like, so if a video was really good or really helpful then a like seems more natural and you don't even have to ask for that.
It's really up to people to decide that and I think it's wrong to ask for a like or to subscribe. If people truly like the video then they will most likely like it, I mean I do that and I'll subscribe to a YouTuber if he or she has a lot of good videos that I like. So for me it's not that one good video means I want to subscribe to someone, because otherwise you keep getting messages in your feed that the YouTuber has made new videos and you don't like them. It's kind of lame to subscribe to someone and then unsubscribe a week later. So I'd rather take my time and see if this is a channel I want to subscribe to instead of just immediately subscribing to a channel because I like one video of this person.
At the same time it's important to support a YouTuber if you can, for example if someone makes good videos and hardly gets any likes for that and nobody wants to subscribe to his or her channel then this person might get the impression that he or she makes bad videos. So it's important to support the good ones out there. Which is why I do try to subscribe to people that make good videos that I like. But the problem is that things get a bit chaotic in your list when you're subscribed to let's say fifty channels. I mean what do you do when they all upload new videos? Watch them all or are you going to choose? Unless you have the entire day off and don't mind spending it watching videos it seems like you're not going to watch them all.
So I don't think it's bad to ask for a like or to subscribe to the channel, but I could never do that myself. I just feel uncomfortable with that. I think that if someone really wants to like my video or subscribe to my channel then they can do that, I don't need to tell him or her that. Maybe for big channels this is more a thing people do to help them grow a bit more. But at the same time the asking for a like and to subscribe thing can become annoying and it might have a negative effect on some viewers. So you might want to keep that in mind. I think we all like a like and if people want to subscribe to your channel then that's great, but let them decide and try not to throw people to death with your like and subscribe line in every video. It can be quite annoying if you hear it a lot, which is why I often skip that part.
