Call of Duty: WW 2
It's been some time since I played a CoD game, the last one was Black Ops 3 and that was almost two years ago, so it was kind of weird to jump back into CoD: WW 2 but I definitely don't regret buying the game. It was absolutely worth it and the campaign alone is worth it, put on top of that multiplayer and an awesome zombie mode and you should be busy for at least a couple of weeks.
The campaign is brutal?
From the start the campaign shows you the horror of war, the terrible things that happened and D-Day is probably one of the best parts to show that to the players. Seeing soldiers die horribly left and right of you makes you small, so incredibly small in the game that I couldn't help but wonder how I made it safely without getting hit across the beach. The anger you feel how so many German soldiers killed your friends and brothers in arms it just made you relentless when you kick in a bunker door and just kill them all. What's interesting is how there are moments when an ally is in trouble, this npc is in a struggle with a German soldier and you have to shoot this German soldier quickly or your ally will die. There are also moments that an ally gets shot and you have to drag him to safety. This adds an extra bit of emotion and sense of duty, you want to help but when a sniper is keeping his eye on the wounded soldier it becomes a risk trying to save him. But of course you try to help, I mean someone else would do the same for you...right? The campaign gives you several different things to do but most of the time you're just playing as private Daniels and stick with your squad. There are also other moments where you play as a tank driver, a resistance fighter for an undercover mission and a pilot for some plane battles in the sky. Your squad isn't just a bunch of characters that follow you around but they're actually helpful. They all have their own special ability and can help you greatly. Your buddy Zussman has health packs, you see your health doesn't automaticly regenerate so you actually have to tuse a health pack to heal. So it's a good thing that Zussman can supply you with them and you can also find them on the battlefield. Other squad members can give you ammo, grenades, targetting smoke and Pierson can even mark enemies. These are usefuly abilities that you might to be used to in a CoD game but it's absolutely useful! Some people complain that the campaign is short but I think it's good the way it is, ok there could've been more missions but from what they gave us in the game I didn't feel like they left stuff out. The developers give you a lot to do and some missions are a lot of fun. My favourite is mission five where you first play as the resistance fighter and get to play the spy game. You have to infiltrate a German HQ in Paris and plant some bombs, but first you have to make contact with the inside man. This means learning your backstory and finding out who the inside man is. This was so much fun and the sneaking around later was also pretty cool. I really enjoyed the stealth missions and there are several in the game, but in some stealth misisons you can also just go in loud. Things will get harder from that point on but whatever works for you.
Multiplayer is still good?
I never played CoD: Infinite Warfare, I didn't like the look of multiplayer and after you're done with the campaign this is really what keeps the game alive next to zombie mode. So I'm glad that multplayer in CoD: WW 2 is pretty good. But it's not perfect and it definitely has some issues. For example the new HQ environment is quite empty, at least it is for some Xbox One players. Every time I go to HQ, the new social place where you can meet other players between matches and do certain activities or pick up some challenges, there are no other players which is really weird. There is also a new game mode called war, this is a lot like operations in Battlefield 1. You play a war scenario and one team defends while the other attacks. the attacking team has to complete several objectives while the defending team tries to stop them. When one side wins the teams swtich sides and try again. It's really a fun game mode but it can also be very frustrating with certain teams. I've been in teams and played against teams that weren't playing the objective and just pretty much tried to get as many kills as possible totally screwing their team over. Of course the other game modes like team deathmatch, kill confirmed and domination are also back so if that's more your thing then you can play that as well. I also noticed that matchmaking is pretty bad in multiplayer, several times I was in a low level team facing a high level team. The worst situations was during a domination match where the highest person on my team was level 28 and the lowest level on the enemy team was level 43, what was worse is that they were all in a group and my team was full of random players. Not a very fair situation and it lead of course to a big defeat. I really hope that gets fixed but other than that multiplayer is fun and eventhough you still have to deal with the sad sack of shit campers, drop shotters and quick scopers it's pretty much what you expect with a CoD game.
The most scary zombie mode?
Zombie mode isn't just shooting zombies anymore but the game is trying to freak you out, there were definitely seceral moments that gave me a what the fuck feeling. In the prologue you already get familiar with that and maybe even experience a jump scare or two but also if you play with other players you're in for a treat. Zombies that seem to drop out of the sky right on top of you or that jump through a window trying to get you. You get to play as four new characters and they're voiced by some famous actors like Ving Rhames, David Tennant, Katherine Winnick and Elodie Yung. On top of that you get Udo Kier as the mad German scientist. Their characters are interesting and there are definitely some funny comments from the characters on certain situations. I have to admit that at first the new zombie mode seems easier, I mean I made it on my first playthrough to wave 12 which never happened before because I'm not that good and on your own without knowing what to do usually doesn't get you that far. But things actually go pretty smooth and with the new system of geistcraft you actually have a better chance of surviving. Every time you kill zombies you collect this essence and you use it to buy for weapons, new power ups or armor. This armor you can lose if you get hit too much but you can buy new armor, it will get more expensive every time you purchase it. You can also use a special ability like infinite ammo for a short time, become invisible for a short time, stun zombies and boost damage for a short time. These special abilities work a lot like an ultimate in Overwatch, by killing enemies you charge it up and when it's ready you activate it by pressing both bumpers, for the console at least, and that will improve your chances of winning a lot. But thing get tougher, much tougher when you get further into the level. So it might be a good idea to team up with others or just come well prepared. I think this zombie mode is one of the best I played and I absolutely like it!
So is CoD: WW 2 worth checking out? I think it is, it's absolutely a lot of fun to play and I'm still enjoying it a lot and haven't stop playing since I got it. It's definitely a step in the right direction for CoD and I hope it will be the first of many!
