What is your motivation to play a game?

This seems like a dumb question but I actually do wonder this sometimes. Why? Because when I see certain people play a game then I can't imagine that it's all for the same reasons, that would just not make sense. Besides I think it's a lot more believable if we all have our own reasons to play a game, because if we all play for the same reasons then there should be a lot less friction and frustration online. When different personalities clash online then that's usually not a good thing and it can make playing a game a frustrating experience.

Why do you play a game?

I play games for fun, it's really that simple. I don't care too much about being the talented or popular gamer, I just want to play a game and have a good time. Wether that is in a single player game or a multiplayer game. It's nice when I win but I understand that you can't win all the time, so accepting defeat is pretty much the key to have a good time online against others. Unfortunately a losing streak can make even the most easy going person frustrated. So it's not always easy to have fun online but I always try to have fun, not at the expense of others though. When I'm in a team I want to work together in a team, which doesn't automaticly mean I want to be the super talkative guy online but some strategy is often appreciated when you play certain games. For example Rainbow Six Siege is a game where talking can mean the difference between winning or losing a match. Another motivation for me to play games is to unlock some achievements, I really enjoy unlocking achievements and it's a nice thing in a game that leaves a feeling of accomplishment. I beat the game on the hardest difficulty, I got all the collectibles, I beat that extra boss or I managed to beat a game really fast. These are all examples of achievements that can make you feel good, because it's a personal victory and even if others don't understand it they do make you feel like you just did something amazing!

We all have our own reasons to play games?

Absolutely! Some want to be a popular gamer, have a lot of friends and have succes with uploading gameplay videos on YouTube. There are also people that like to meet other people, make friends or maybe even more than that. I don't know if games are the best place for that but it's not that odd and I definitely met women in a game with whom I got pretty close. So yeah not that crazy, but if that is your main motivation to play games then I think you're in the wrong place for that! There are unfortunately also people that like to make the lives of other people miserable and enjoy doing that in games. This is actually a pretty sad reason to play games. I don't fully understand that and I'm glad I don't understand that because I wouldn't want to. Then there are also some people that apparently have the weirdest reason to play games and I can't seem to figure that out. I mean they buy a game, they get into a multiplayer match and then they do nothing. These leechers, because that's what you call them, seem to do everything what a normal gamer would do and then suddenly branch into a different direction where they just don't want to participate and yet do want to get rewarded for being in the match. It's really weird and I can't seem to understand why you would do that but I guess it's just another sad type of person. There are many different people in the world and when it comes to playing games we all seem to have our own reasons to play these games. Which is a good thing, but looking at some of the examples I mentioned it also contains some annoying people that you might encounter online. That probably explains why some people prefer to stick to single player games and I don't blame them. I just hope that most player have a good time when playing games because if you don't have a good time playing games then maybe it's not the right hobby for you or you're playing the wrong games.
