The Sims 4 on console, is it worth checking out?

As a Sims fan I'm glad that the Sims 4 is finally on the consoles, because I never bought the Sims 4 for my pc, so you can imagine that I immediately bought the game when it came out. But how good is the Sims 4 on console and is it worth buying? Let's find out!

Pc is better than console?

Yeah I know, pc master race and all that bullshit. But honestly there are some games that even I, a console player for more than two decades, would prefer to play on pc. The Sims games are one of the few games that I actually prefer to play on pc, the controls for the console are just a bit different and less smooth in my opinion. Unfortunately the Sims 4 isn't that different than my latest experience with a Sims game for the consoles, the Sims 2 for the Playstation 2. But you can definitely get used to the controls and eventhough the controls with a mouse on your pc a just better you can play the game quite well with the controller. It just feels a bit more clumsy and sluggish in my opinion. The game does run pretty smooth on consoles and the loading times aren't that long, for example going from one neighbourhood to the other doesn't take that long and I remember that in the Sims 3 that could take me almost a minute on pc. I did play on an old pc though. The game also looks pretty, it doesn't feel like you play some ugly version of the Sims 4 and everything looks pretty good. So honestly I can't say I regret getting the Sims 4 for my console, but I will admit that the pc version is better. If you're a console player and your pc isn't good enough to play the Sims 4 on it then this console version of the Sims 4 is a perfect solution!

The Sims 4 is different but not bad?

Several things are definitely different about the Sims 4. Already in the creating a sim menu you notice that things are different. To change a sim you now click on the body part or clothing you want to change. This is a bit weird at first but it's something you can get used to. I did notice that the options seem to have gotten smaller. For example the colour options for clothing is limited to just a select few options and not to a full colour spectrum where you can pick whatever you want. Options for gender also have changed, for example now you can create a male or female sim but have some side options to that. Let's say you want to make a female sim that can pee standing up or have a male sim that can get pregnant, you can do that in the sims 4. This might not be for everyone but it does give people something to choose. You also have some freedom around your house but instead of having the entire town to explore you can only move around a certain neighbourhood, if you want to go further on foot you first have to travel there with the quick travel system. It's a bit weird and it feels like a step back from the Sims 3 but it's not terrible. Going back to the sim creating menu you also have no star sign anymore. Now you pick certain traits that define how you react to certain things and how that makes you feel. For example I picked the lone wolf trait and it makes my sim happy when he is alone but uncomfortable when he's surrounded by strange sims. This can create unique and interesting social options. For example if your sims starts flirting or is being flirted with then he or she gets a flirtatious mood and this leads to unique social interactions. The same counts for when you're happy, sad, angry or energetic. I've had some really funny and silly situations because of those moods.

A fun but not perfect game?

So far I've had a lot of fun with the Sims 4 on console, it's absolutely a lot of fun but unfortunately it does have some issues. For example when I called over a repair person and this woman showed up and fixed my broken computer and then she never left. Apparently this was already a bug in the game in 2015, so it's ridiculous that this is still a thing in the console version in 2017! This is just a minor problem though, it doesn't ruin the game for me and is actually kind of silly. It would be nice if this would be fixed! The Sims 4 on console is a lot of fun and as a fan of the previous games I can see myself playing this game a lot! Already on the first day I met this female sim and got along with her, you talk a bit and start flirting when you are having a lot of fun together. So a week later I'm married in the Sims 4, yeah weird but these things happen! In a way the Sims 4 is just like the previous Sims games where you can do what you want and maybe do things you would probably never do in real life. It's the perfect way to explore possibilities and maybe learn a couple of things about yourself. The Sims 4 is a single player game, so no online options with other players or split screen fun with a friend. There are also no story missions or anything like that, you can do whatever you want. You can even activate cheats to speed things up, but keep in mind that the moment you do that you can't unlock any achievements or trophies on that save file. So keep that in mind! There are also several add ons ready to be installed for the Sims 4 on console, but the price is a bit steep at the moment in my opinion. But don't worry, the Sims 4 will keep you busy for quite some time.
