I hate Monday: When you have to make an account on a website to get your pre-order reward
I usually don't pre-order games to get the reward but it's nice when you get something if you did. It used to be simple, the code would be in the box with with game but these days you get a mail from the shop where you pre-ordered the game or the website you got it from. If you're truly shit out of luck you have to make an account on the website of the game developer to enter the code so you can finally get your pre-order reward. Seriously, could it be more confusing and annoying? Don't answer that, I'm pretty certain that it could be more annoying...
Why so much trouble for a pre-order reward?
My guess is that the developer wants you to have an account on their website and also that you sign up for the news letter so you also get spam in your inbox. Yes absolutely enjoyable if you have no life outside the game but I do have other things to do and jumping through these hoops to get a reward, that is often not worth all the trouble, is just lame. I understand that the developers want you to to sign up to their website and that they know your emailadress so they can keep you updated, but this should be the choice of the player and not something that is being manipulated with rewards. I'm really sick and tired of having to make another account on another website of some game I'm playing just to get a reward. It sucks! Ok I can ignore the reward and not give a damn but sometimes these rewards are worth it and then you're missing out on something cool or that little bit of experience bonus that can help you get faster through the first levels. Is it really that difficult to just reward people when they log in to the game on launch day? I mean if someone is logging in on launch day then there is a good chance he or she pre-ordered the game and should get the reward. I've pre-ordered a game a day before launch and still got the pre-order reward, so in all honesty it's pretty much bullshit anyway. Wether you pre-order a year in advance or a day, it's the same. The only risk with a late pre-order is that the rewards might run out, so only the first thousand pre-orders get the reward. All I'm saying is that it would be cool if we can just get the pre-order reward without making another account on another website that you never use again after getting the reward.
Is it really that bad?
It's not the end of the world but I really hate putting my private information on so many websites just for some small reward and then having it out there. Oh sure you get the promise that they won't abuse the information but are you really that comfortable with your private information being on a random website? If that site gets hacked then your information is up for grabs and who knows what they do with that. Yeah I know it doesn't happen often but when it does then you're screwed! What I would like to see is that you get the pre-order bonus in the box with the game or you go to one site where you can put all your codes in under one profile. This way you don't have dozens of accounts that you have to remember. Why make things harder when they can be simple? Maybe some people have no issues with how things are going now but are you truly that comfortable with putting your personal information on some random website? I guess they never had a hacked account because I can tell you that it sucks! The worst part is when you didn't even remember you had that account and you completely forgot the password, yeah great fun right there. I guess it's just better to let go of the pre-order rewards and just be happy with the game. Who cares about that hat you can unlock or the flashy camo for your weapon, it's just one of many things you can unlock anyway.
