Sinful Sunday: I always need to win?
I'm not going to lie, I like winning. I wouldn't say I'm addicted to it but it sure feels good when you win. That feeling you beat someone else or a whole group of other people is a good feeling. For example in a free for all match where you come out on top, that gives you a feeling of bliss words can hardly describe. But does that mean you always have to win? Well...no, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let others win. Maybe that's a douchebag move but a victory that isn't earned isn't much of a victory!
There's a need to win?
I think it drives a lot of players, especially in (competitive) multiplayer. Even if it's a friendly match between friends I still feel that desire to win, if only it was to annoy my friends with my victory. But hey that's the type of stuff friends do, don't think my friends spare me when they win! The winner often gets more experience, better rewards and of course gets highlighted as the winner. A lot of bad losers will quickly rage quit so they don't have to see that, which shows you how much of an impact it can have but at the same time it also shows how some people are terrible losers. But the thing with a game is that if you play it that there is always a chance that you can lose, if you can't handle that then maybe you shouldn't play that game. I never go with the intention of winning, I learned to let that go over the years and now I just want to have a good time. There have been several matches where I got a seconds or third place and still had a great time. As good as it is to win I don't think winning is everything, having fun playing the game is a lot more important to me than winning. But it's nice when you can combine the two, I won't deny that.
Letting others win is dumb?
I'm not judging other people who do that, but I personally don't think it's a good thing to let others win. It might seems like a nice thing to do but as I mentioned earlier a victory that isn't earned isn't much of a victory. When I play against a friend I might ease up a bit but I won't let them win, because that would be lame when they finally beat me and then it turned out that I let them win. I destroyed their happiness with that, I'm pretty certain that my friends can beat me fair and square. Should you let your boyfriend or girlfriend win? Well it's tempting to let the one you love win but honestly it's a bit lame if you do that don't you think? Maybe he or she doesn't see it that way but I think that you shouldn't let someone else win. The victory is much sweeter when you actually earn it and I can say that from experience. Trying to beat my father with chess was a long and difficult road but when I finally managed to do that it felt great. It might seem harsh to have to go through defeat so many times but you learn from mistakes and if he let me win then I wouldn't have learned as much as I did because I lost. I guess we all have our own ways of doing things, I'm not saying one way is wrong or stupid but I think that victory must be earned and that's just honestly my opinion. The most important part is having fun with you family, friends or even complete strangers online. As long as you're having fun you're never truly losing.
